Harbor Freight Welding Table on Sale - $59

Why have a quarter ton tractor mobile welding table. What is it for?
I'd love to have one. My barn is wood with wooden floor. I don't have room elsewhere to weld either. Keeping a solid mobile welding table inside but being able to move it outdoors to weld would be great. I have several of the HF portable welding tables which are great for small tasks but a solid welding table with 3/4" top would be a game changer. Being able to move it with the tractor would be great.

I modified an old heavy table my dad had purchased many years ago. Heavy plate steel with legs too long and not easy to move. Cut the legs down, attached casters, and painted it up. Also put a vise on the end of it for clamping. I weld most of my projects on it. Not nearly as nice as this one but serves my purpose well.

Here's my work bench that I bought at that same auction. It is also quite heavy - probably all built out of 12 guage steel. The top is 10 ga. I welded on a pad and put my vise on that one.
The drawers have rollers on them so they slide in and out easily.
It's about 6' long and 3' front to back.

I bought an old table saw with a cast iron top and two wings for $25 on CL. The motor didn't work which is why it was $25. I took the motor off and use it as a welding table. Much easier than what I usually try to do. It also has a couple wheels so I can move it around easily.

I can set a loader bucket on it and weld a new wear edge on without crushing it.
I can set a 500 lb tractor engine on it without worrying about bending it.
I can clamp pieces to it to prevent them from warping when I weld it.
I can tack pieces to the top of it to assist in assembly then cut them off when I get it all welded together.
I can pound on it and flatten stuff.
I can drill and tap holes in the 3/4" top to assist in clamping things down.
I can hook a come a long to one side and straighten things.
I can heat things on it with the rose bud torch without warping the top.
I can clamp parts to it and paint them.
You can see the doors on one side where I store all my cutting and grinding wheels, welding and brazing rods, clamps, jigs, magnetic cutting bars, angle brackets, etc and keep them organized.

That won't fold up and fit in a tiny spot in my basement. At the moment all I have for inside work space is less than a 1/4 of my walkout basement. The cheap HF table does the job for now. Would I like the garage/barn with lots of space? Of course but for now I have to work on my stuff in the dirt outside my basement door. BTW, I buy the more expensive tools when it's something I use all the time like wrenches and drills. Sometimes you have to set priorities.

Over the course of time, I've picked up a couple of welding tables with 3/8 steel tops. One is 4x4', the other 4x3.5'. Coincidentally, they are the same height, which allows a lot of flexibility. Total cost was $90 for both.

The tractor 3pt idea is great, but mine are light enough to move with the bucket forks.

It kind of amazes me what kind of junk people will buy as long as it's cheap.
I bought this table at an auction. The top is 3/4" thick. 5'X5'
The whole table weighs 6 or 700 lbs.
I added the 3 point pins so I can haul it in and out of my garage easily. It's nice to be able to keep all the grinding dust and welding smoke out of the garage.
If you want to do good work, buy good tools.
I live less than a mile from Harbor Fright and never go in there.

Good find. I always look at weight of the object in question to determine useability. A $59 welding table isn't going to weight much. Otherwise they would sell it for scrap iron. :)

Yes. I don't think weight is the only issue though. As many have pointed out, there is a role for a heavy solid, ideally ground cast iron welding table and there is equally a role for a compact light duty portable table. Not an either or proposition. I cannot imagine a serious welder would not want both types.

That heavy steel table is a find! Some of us have limited shop space, so we have to get by with much lighter, more portable work surfaces. I often wonder how much damage the fumes could be doing, so I try to weld with a fan blowing past me, out an open door. I have an explosion proof fan (120V AC, surplus from MI tanks (?!!) and a louver flap exhaust but can't seem to find a good spot in the wall to install it...
