Not trying to start an argument, but has anybody taken a Deere XUV600 or XUV800 "off-road"? I have (and compared it with other brands since my son sells those) and I think you'll find they are just as good, and in some cases better than, the competitors. Now the "original" Gators, which are called "Work Series", are another story.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that Deere now makes different lines of Gators for different uses, but they are still all called "Gators":
  • The Work Series. These are basically the "original" Gators. They have the largest payload capacity of any of the Gators. They are not meant for "fun"; just to be workhorses (although they do come in 4WD).
  • The Electric Series. These are the old "TS" Gators with battery power instead of gas. Think electric golf cart with a bed.
  • The XUV600 Series. These are mid-size off-road, so not as large as the Can-Am in the first post. Can-Am doesn't make anything in this size but Polaris makes the "General".
  • The XUV800 Series. These are full-size off-road and the ones that compete directly with the Can-Am in the first post. They don't have the capacity of the Work Series but are higher-power, more agile, and built more for "fun".

I looked at the 800 series but they don't have the wheel travel, have smaller tires, and are missing the true front lockers, etc, compared to the Defender HD10 limited or the Polaris models. They are still good vehicles, but 30 less HP and the other missing features limited them as a trail machine. Also, the aftermarket accessories for Deere machines are seriously lacking compared to Polaris/Can-Am, etc. Again, they are good machines but their work roots still run deep.
