L3130 too Big ??

The B3030 would be a good choice for your needs. It's lighter, less expensive, tighter turning, better on fuel & no big deal to trailer. The 403 loader is a fine match for this machine & being the top of the B line, it comes with some nice features such as position control 3 PH,tilt wheel, independent pto, etc. I'm very happy with my B3030, it handles like a luxury automobile!

Same here..all the way around. Not too big...not too small.

I stopped chiming in on these "too big?" discussions a couple years ago - but this one caught my eye. My bet is that if you buy the L3130 you will never think it is too big. You'll adapt to its size and function and it will become familiar just as any new tool does. If you tend to do jobs that are at the upper end of the range of your other tools (chainsaw, prybar, pickup truck) then get the L3130 and be prepared to want a L5030 in a couple years, as happens to many people here. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

About working in close to houses...
I have proven to myself that any tractor can work in close to houses, the difference between a smaller tractor and a larger tractor is the bite. The point is to not contact the house and not to panic react if you do. That said, you can take quite a bite out of a concrete foundation with the business corner of an LA723 bucket, and that was without the benefit of alcohol.
I'm glad it was in the back wall and it wasn't at my house.

All the best in whatever you choose,
Martin

There is truth in the fact too big is a rare complaint, when speaking of tractors. You really need to analyze what your needs are as well as what they may become. I had a tough decision between the B & the L, it had nothing to do with cost, they are not that far apart money wise. Ther'e are occasions that i wish i had a bigger machine, but not very often. Don't rush into buying, it's important to be comfortable operating your machine.

When I was tractor shopping in April, 2003, I was going to get a B2910 as I had rented one twice in 2002 and really liked it. The dealer I checked with did the pricing on one and then recommended the L3130.

I went out to the yard and checked out the 3130. It really looked beefy compared to the B2910. We went back in and crunched numbers and the L3130 was only $1800 more than the 2910. I decided on the L3130.

That evening I was going through the brochures and discovered that the L3430 was the same tractor with three more horse. I didn't want to go bigger physically because I was worried my wife would be intimidated.

So I ended up with the L3430 when I started out shopping for a B2910! If I was to buy again, I think I would get the L5030. My wife never gets to run the tractor anyway because I hog it. Plus she did fine on the L3430 the one time she disked the garden.

Bigger IS better!

If you do go 3130 I would definetely look at the 723 loader over the 513 for the extra capacity. Also have you considered/driven the HST? another consideration to make, and not that much more than the GST...

Tractor needs vary greatly from person to person, bigger is not always better, this generalization for every tractor owner is simply foolish. Example,i make my living with my tractor, year round. I needed a tractor that was small enough to scoop up snow between parked cars & work in residential yards. I also needed a tractor that offered the power to work on athletic fields and perform multifunctions of landscape construction, all in the comfort of a factory cab. No L model could give me exactly what i needed. Bigger may be better for you, but not for everyone!
