Cab tractors are assembled in GA, open stations assembled in India.

"assembled" is the key word, the actual tractor is made in India.

That makes no sense.

He said "Cab tractors are assembled in GA, open stations assembled in India."

So where do you say the actual open tractor "made", as opposed to assembled?

In fact, I would say the shortcomings in my new tractor are in its assembly; too many nuts, bolts and fittings not tightened (in Georgia). Whatever parts arrived from other countries is insignificant to me.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for update as I was unaware one could click on yr models to attain different information. That just goes to prove one can't get too old to learn something new!!!

Just an update. Love the tractor but having these problems. Should I try to get them to swap it out for another one? Has 21 hrs on it now I think. Had it since nov 25th.

Oil in antifreeze
3pt will only raise about half of what it should. Makes loading equipment fun
Big cab bolt that connect to rops is stripped and sticking up about 1/2-3/4". They are mentioning new cab possible??
Telescoping steering wheel won't lock
Missing one rear carriage bolt and another is loose on rear tire
Caution light comes on constantly and kicks pto off
Brakes go to floor, have to pump them. Another thing that's fun when loading equipment

I'm sure Brett doesn't give a rat's butt in which country they didn't tighten which bolt. This isn't right. The whole point in buying new and spending extra on the green paint is to avoid this exact scenario. Oil in the antifreeze, 3pt not working, reattaching a new cab and oh by the way make sure you pump the brakes?!

This is the kind of horror story that should be associated with a gray-market Chinese tractor, not a brand new John Deere.

Loaning you equipment doesn't make for a good dealer or salesperson and sorry, their attention to detail sucks. They already dropped off the wrong tractor once and are now in possession of the problem one. You aren't paying to borrow a used tractor, you're paying for a new one. Nothing short of a new tractor would make me happy because I would have zero confidence in the first one and would still be highly suspect of its replacement.

I would be gracious, polite but unyielding on anything short of a new tractor, it's Christmas you know! Good luck!

You are exactly right. I bought new so I wouldn't have these issues. Salesman is supposed to come by today JD drop off a mower. I'll talk to him about getting a new tractor. I still haven't received anything in the mail from JD financial yet so that's nice. I looked up JD 30 day guarantee and it doesn't apply to 5 series unfortunately.

Contacted salesman to let him know I'd like to use the 30 day guarantee and have them buy it back. Hopefully they have another tier II 5055 cab with power reverser available. Otherwise I might have to get the 65. At this point however, I do not want to spend anymore money. I'll let everyone know how this plays out.

The points about where assembly takes place should be noted for future purchases. Where the individual parts are made is information you'll hafta really dig hard to find. But where final assembly takes place is valid and important. In reading threads I seem to notice more assembly issues with tractors made in India than in Georgia.

Just because the specs are written to a certain standard does not mean that JD will hold each location to that standard.

For example, Freightliner Over the Road Trucks moved their plants to Mexico. Instantly assembly quality went down. Again, not because of the nation they are assembled in, but more because Freightliner did not enforce assembly standards.

A smaller, yet just as important example. I wear Wrangler jeans. When I go to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple pair the first thing I look at is where they were made. If made in Mexico I don't even bother to try them on, I just pick up a couple and head for the check-out. They always fit me the same. But if made in Indonesia or some other such nation, I head for the exit. I'll come back when I can get Mexican made. Again, the standards are better enforced by Wrangler with their assembly plants in Mexico than they are elsewhere.

What disappoints me is that our "Premium" tractor brand, John Deere, has let this go. Very disappointing. Now I gotta treat JD like Wrangler and question country of assembly...... :(

Makes perfect sense, Deere does not MAKE the tractor in GA, i.e. the engine, transmission, axles etc. They ASSEMBLE the tractor. I think you'll find an Indian built skid unit arrives in Georgia to have the cab and remainder "assembled". Deere MAKES the actual components (aside from the cab) in India, and can also ASSEMBLE them there. Does it matter? Only if one Deere facility has less stringent quality control than the other.

Be interesting to know if "GA" tractors have more issues than "Pune" ones or vice versa.
