WASHINGTON — The U.S. government this week bought $290 million in supplies of a drug designed to treat blood cell injuries following radiological and nuclear emergencies as part of what it said were long-standing efforts to prepare for potential health impacts from threats to national security.

Yeh, that's definitely something. Russia's mobilization is gonna do jack against precision artillery, and DC is now talking about Ukraine's chances of retaking Crimea. The strategic nuke thing is a real possibility as Putin's last option (besides, you know, doing the normal thing and admitting it's over), as is NATO's response to it. If this turns into a real NATO vs Russia war, wow who knows how this will play out?

So about 10 doses?

(sorry, couldn't resist)

It's hard to predict how Trump's presidency will impact Ukraine, especially with tensions rising. If Russia feels unsatisfied, there's definitely a risk of escalation. I hope Ukraine continues to get support from international allies. I follow the news about various projects of the Ukrainian entities like the public organization Algorytm NGO https://algorytm.ngo/en and I know they do their best to to promote peace and support communities affected by these conflicts. But I'm not sure it is enough.

My guess is US contribution will diminish and EU and others increase?

I’ve heard one person isn’t even a grain of sand on the beach but we know there are a few that impact the world.

My EU friends truly believed Russia had changed and was no longer an outside threat and EU was eager to do business with Russia.

It is a hard lesson that in 2024 not much has changed on the world order…

The lesson is more, imo, that the UN proven once again to be a feckless waste of resources. The whole point was to stop this sort of war of aggression. ALL the member nations were supposed to be unified on this one issue.

There is literally no reason for the UN to exist any longer. If Russia was completely isolated, maybe things could be different. Sadly for the people in Ukraine, nothing will solve this in a good way.

Ukraine isn't run by saints, but the problems there stem primarily from the deliberate push by Russia to relocate ethnic Russians into Ukraine when USSR was still around. It's their allegiance to Russia that is the root problem.

International relations: A poker game where everyone cheats, lies and bluffs hard. I expect Trump to disrespect the rest of NATO, and threaten to pull all support. At which point NATO proceeds to call Russias bluff, and attacks, while China takes all of Manchuria, and the eastern Russian Aliance member/cooperator states breakaway.

From what I've read the first nuke strikes will be to take out the satellites, in particular the ones that provide GPS.

Russia and China have ground-based alternatives to GPS.

We used to have LORAN and may have an upgraded version in the future but for now, nada.

This will impact shipping, trucking, farming, etc.

Why destroy us when they can cripple us and make us dependant?

There won't be a single nuke strikes, one will be answer with thousands leading us to a nuclear winter and to the stone age and the end of the world we know, shipping and farming will be the least of our worry.

I just now noticed this thread so I have to read through it when I have more time. The History Channel's documentary Hiroshima 75 years later is a good watch.

I ended up in Germany in 1970. Base piece, M110 8" with strategic weapons, ie; the W33 (I think it was) nuclear round. Always kind of wondered about one of those landing maybe 15 miles away?

A thin little book titled Hiroshima is a good read also. It tells the story of 6 people who were there - close up.

Russia revamped their nuke policy to include attacks from non-nuclear countries with the support of nuclear countries. The day after biden said ukraine could use our weapons to attack directly into russia.

Fortunately for me I live in a purple triangle. I can only hope it happens while I sleep and I'm blissfully unaware of the impending doom. Of course they're probably send stupid warnings to all our cell phones to make sure we're awake.. jerks.

It is specific DoD policy to NOT tell the general public if the balloon goes up. Last thing they want is a bunch of panicked civilians clogging up the highways and major crossroads.

Now that Trump is the new US President, I guess the situation in Ukraine can change. And nobody knows what exactly to expect. I wonder whether Russia will threaten the world with nukes if it isn't satisfied with Trump's plan. Also, I'm not sure Ukraine will be supported further.
According to today's news, Putin offers negotiations , with Trump!, not the sleepy joe.
