Pros and cons of using an over run clutch/coupler on pto??

Cannot speak for a Mahindra as I know nothing about them but I can for Kubota and Kubota's have notoriously weak PTO clutch (brake) packs as in not enough discs on the brake section of the pack, the main reason why I use an over running clutch with any implement that don't have one in it's driveline already.

It would seem that the brake and clutch are one and the same on an electric/hydraulic PTO. Is that not usually the case?

I would imagine so, just the actuation and release would be different. Probably use a solenoid instead of a mechanical lever.

I would like to thank you all for your great responses!! I am convinced that I will likely try and get my hands on an ORC. I may have found one at a dealer near me for almost half the price of the one on amazon. Will have to try and get over there in the next couple of weeks to have a look at it. Seems to me it is well worth the money. I belive I will have no trouble fitting it onto the shaft with the current pto shaft length with a little room to spare.

Thanks again and happy tractoring!!!

I've been running an over run clutch on my tractor for over 2 decades for 2 reasons.
1) To save on the PTO brake
2) To make attaching PTO driven implements easier. (without the ORC my PTO brake will not let you turn the PTO shaft by hand to line up the splines on PTO powered attachments for easy hookup, the ORC solves that issue)

Is the brake engaged even when the tractor is off. With my tractor off the PTO free wheels so I can turn the PTO shaft to attach implements.

I could not turn my PTO stub by hand with the tractor off.

I just flip my PTO lever to Neutral and the PTO shaft just spins freely regardless of the spring actuated PTO brake.

Yea. Mine doesn't work that way.

Typically, Kubota's will rotate about 45 degrees (if the brake is working correctly) with the engine off and the pto lever not engaged and that should allow enough rotation to couple up most any implement.

I do like using an IRC because one, it extends the stub out about 5" and it allows the stub end of the ORC to freewheel in the direction opposite the driven rotation so it's even easier to hook up plus I'm out from under the tractor mounted PTO shield.
