Putting a pick-up bed on my F-550

That looks very good. I wonder if you could get by with a couple of large fender flares instead of the dually fenders (that you already bought)? Those wheels tuck under the bed nicely.

Or, switch to something like what the big rigs have done, and move to a wider tire instead of dualies and elimenate the spacers on the front axle.

This is what I have so far with the fenders held on with 2 motorcycle tie-down straps and no clamps or nothing, I will try this again with two people and clamps with I hope a better fitting fender. You know how we get anxious and try this and that to see what it will look like :D

So I'm still trying to figure it out...

Did you raise the cab or didn't you? You alluded to the other trick up your sleeve, but I don't see where you told us what it was.

Good observation, I raised the back of cab a little and lowered front of bed a little till they matched. Lots of jacking and looking by my self but it's done and I think it looks great
It just took a little more time

Jim I think your idea for linning up the bed is the best one of all. Great truck, finding a truck like that with the right wheel base and wheel width for your project would be hard......Larry

Larry, I knew I had a major problem when lot's of experts told me it could NOT be done, frame is different, bed is too short, nothing lines up, and no such thing as a cab lift for a diesel on account of intercooler placement and steering column extender and more " can't be done" stuff, I sat down in my garage and had an adult beverage and another one and another one and thought about how about doing it a different way? who says it has to be done one way only? It was easy, my way and cheap too
When are we going to do yours :D
You have to consider, I bought a cab and chassis truck and I went from there. I could have put a flatbed on real easy and lots cheaper but I wanted a pick up.

I saw those pics. Everything lines up pretty darn good. That's why I wondered how you did it.

There's always a way. Then there's always an easier way.

Great job. I know it's still a ways off, but what color will you be painting it? Solid color, flames(?), two tone?

Thanks, not totally sure about color yet but there is a real good chance it could have a different color at/near the bottom and I never did like flames.
I'll keep you all posted I only work on this a couple of days per week and everything I need is at the other place ( 22 miles away) :(

You could paint it like I did my old Bronco...

1) Paint the truck brown
2) Run it through the mud
3) Paint the truck white (don't wash it first!)
4) Wash it
5) Colour sand it
6) Clear coat it
7) Prepare to tell everybody that you DID wash your truck today
