Buying Advice Quarter-inching Valve

Actually only some of the 2000 Series John Deeres have position control; my 2305 does not.

That is true. I forgot about the 2305 when I said all the 2000 series. I guess I put that tractor in a separate class like the BX. The 2320,2520,2720 all do have position control.

Yeah, the 2305 is kind of an "in between" tractor, not small enough to be a SCUT, but pretty darn close. We use ours almost exclusively for mowing and pulling trailers, so the quarter inching valve isn't a problem.

Her is a good video of quarter inching on a Kubota.

YouTube - Kubota B7610 Quarter Inch Valve versus Position Control

Before I bought my B3300SU I asked several old time tractor owners about position control and quarter inching since I never owned a tractor and had no clue. Most said they don't know theirs just goes up and down. So I assumed it wasn't a big deal. I guess it depends on what you're doing and what you get used to.

Has any one ever found an application where the quarter inching valve is actually to your advantage ?

Well I'll be! I didn't know how to operate 1/4 inching valve until I watched that video. I would just go up or down or slowly move the lever to fine tune where I wanted the implement. I'll have to try that tomorrow.

It seems to me that the quarter inching might be useful when mounting an implement. Positional control, if it works as advertised, is pretty neat if you are using a ground engagement implement. If it really releases the implement as you go too deep and start to bog, it would really be a help when plowing or using a disc harrow. I have never had a tractor with positional control until my new L3700 is delivered so I can only speculate. I know that plowing was a real bear with my b5200 without that feature. Never tried plowing or disking with my BXs because my plow and disk harrow are too big for them.

Yes I believe the quarter inch valve setup is total junk. There is no excuse for a tractor with a 3 pt hitch to not have position control. I honestly didn't understand the quarter inching valve when I bought my tractor (B3200). If I had known what the 1/4 inch really was I would NOT have bought a tractor with it. It was unimaginable to me for a tractor to not have a "position control" setup on it, and I thought that the 1/4 inch was some sort of improvement or addition feature to the standard position control type that every tractor I had ever ran had. **** my 50 year old Farmall has "position contro"l. Shame on me for not knowing exactly what I was buying I suppose.

Junk, Junk, Junk.
