re BX2200 vs B-series

Stephen,

I'm going through the same sort of grueling exercise in comparing tractors, with the B7500 and B2410 the two Kubota candidates. I caught one typo in your summary - the B7500 has 21 hp total, instead of 24 hp. Also, another note on the B7500 (v. B2410) - I believe that the mid/rear PTOs are not independent of one another on the B7500, but are independent on the B2410. A general note too about the weights - I would use your numbers for comparison between Kubotas, but would not trust the absolute numbers. I think there is a lot of speculation that these numbers do not include tire and wheel weight (pretty bizarre). Looking at the weight of an NH TC21D (1535 lb) seems to indicate that the Kubota quoted weights are 'light' by 200 lb or so. Others can comment on this if they like.

Thanks Wheeeldog,

Correction:
B7500 - 21/16hp, PS/DC, 1367lb, 1356/1058lb, 7.0gpm, Tach
--------^^
B2410 - 24/18hp, PS/PC, 1477lb, 1655/1300lb. 7.0gpm, Tach

I musta read off the wrong column.

I see 23% more lift capacity, 3/2 hp, position control, 110lb and a few inches in base size as the interesting differences. Are there other features of the B2410 which make the price so much higher ? I undedrstand that the 3pt lift capacity is a big thing if you need the heavier implements, but I'm not sure why you would with 18hp on the pto.

I also find it odd that the 2710 and 2910 raise the engine hp to 27 and 30, but the pto hp only to 20 and 22hp. What is the 2910 doing with those extra 8 hp. OK the hydromatic takes a slice but 8hp !?!

Independent PTOs

I've seen comments about this issue before but the discussion went over my head.

Why would I care ot the mid- & back- PTOs are independent ?
Would you ever want to use both at the same time ?
Isn't it better to select the one you want powered ( is that what a non-indepenedent drive does) ?

Stephen,

The issue of independent mid/rear PTO should probably be taken on by one of our seasoned forum vets, but I'll take a stab at it anyway. Say for example you have a mid-mount mower, and you also have some rear PTO-driven implement. If the two PTOs are NOT independent, than when you engage the rear-PTO implement you will also engage the mower. (On the other hand, it's possible that you'd never want to run anything off the rear w/ the mid-mount attached anyway, since I think the mower uses the 3-pt. lift).

Having the option of independent PTO's can be handy, a for instance is I may want to use a rotory cutter on the back field and not have to remove my mid mount mower. With the BX series I can have the rotary mower on the back and lock the mid mount mower in the up position perform the needed task and then remove the rotary cutter without ever having to remove or unhook the mid mount mower. The ability to run both PTO's at the same time can also come in handy if you use a leaf pickup system that has a blower which drives off the rear pto while you mulch with the mid mount mower on the front PTO. Maybe some folks with the larger B series can shed light on having a mid mount mower and locking it in position so you may use the 3 pt without the mower going up and down, my neighbor has a B2710 but no mid mount mower so I have not a clue if this is so for the larger tractors.

I'm as confused as most about the comments on work ability listed on the Carver equip. page. The way I take it is not as a HP issue but a size, weight, hyd flow and lifting ability. There are attachements that the BX series will not handle even though it may have more HP than a lower hp B series, this is due to the B having more weight, a more powerful hyd system, and lets face it the 3 pt on the BX isn't nothing to write home to mom about. Sometimes a one will look at the spec's and see only 100 - 200 pound weight differnce, it may not seem like much, in reality it can be a huge difference when it comes to how that weight is placed so as it can ballance the ability to keep it's front end on the ground while lifting something with the 3pt, or using a FEL.

stephen,
i looked at the bx1800 and fell in love! but as we all do, i wanted to see a bx2200 just to compare. my local dealer (6 miles away) did'nt have one and said that he had no time frame on getting one. i checked around and the next local dealer was 19 miles away, and he had 3- bx2200's. well i went over there and he had them allright, but sitting almost next to them was a b7500. no FEL, but looking mighty
big sitting near those bx's. i really did'nt want to look at
anything but the bx's, but if your into looking at something on the small side of farm tractors, the B7500 is so much larger than the BX-series, that side by side there is no comparison. i did'nt need a B7500 but i'll tell you what. when i sit in my B7500 i'm at the same height as in my
pickup. when i sat in the demo BX i was'nt any higher than my garden tractor. the bx got me looking at kubotas, the B7500 got me to buy a kubota!

a little off course here, under the hood of my B7500 the HP
rating on the sticker says 23.5HP why? its supposed to be 21.0HP! any suppositions.

The 23.5 might be gross hp.The 21 might be net hp .Maybe someone knows for sure.

I have the 7500DT and love it. Maybe the Hp rating of 21 is at the drawbar?
On the independant mid and rear PTO: I haven't used my mid yet but if I remember right, there are two speeds (gearshift) for the pto. When the low speed is used only the rear pto is engaged, when the high speed or gear is engaged then both turn. So it is not completely independant but it is sub-independant. Did I make up a new word?
