Replace 3032e?

Yes and no. For grading, the "T&T" is all most anyone needs. But for ditching, you still need to tilt the blade more that what you can get out of the hitch. Because I don't do much ditching, I left the tilt of my Land Pride RBT45108 for manual adjustment and have the offset and angle hydraulic. ;)

It's not just the fancy blade that you are getting, but weight. An RB1684 weighs 319lbs where as the RBT3584 weighs 709lbs. You can get a whole lot more out of the heavier blade and have it be dependable vs just adding weight to a lighter weight unit.
That's a nice blade, what do they cost? I suppose a 84 inch would be the right size for my 4720?

I'd sell the 3032, move up to a 5 series, and get a quality zero turn. You will be able to do a LOT more, in less time, when using the tractor, you'll spend less time mowing, and your lawn will look better!

There's a low hour 5083E for sale just a few hours north of you :)

Everyone else had me all set to fill the tires this spring and give it a try. Now you go and put crazy ideas back in my head :) I would love a cabbed 5083e, but if I go 5 series, it would likely be a used open station 5045e or 5055e plus a riding or zero turn mower. It looks like a 4120 is about as big as I could reasonably go and still plan on finish mowing with it, but that might even be a stretch.

It probably makes the most sense to just keep what I have, but that isn't always the most fun choice. I told the dealer to keep his eye open for a nice used 5000 series, but will probably keep what I have (unless I can convince the wife I do need that cab....)

Thanks again all. This is a great forum

Moved around lots of gravel yesterday in front of my detached garage with my 3032e, never an issue with the loaded tires. Dump truck couldn't get back far enough because of a tree so he just dumped me a pile of probably 3 or 4 tons. Never even hinted that it couldn't do the job. I'm pretty impressed with this tractor so far. For what I do with a tractor I cant imagine needing anything bigger on my 10 acres. Even knocked a pole barn down Saturday with the loader. It felt good.

nirion,
I'll start by saying that my father in law has a 3032e. I would say perfect size tractor for your yard. You gotta be kiddin me if someone tells you a 50hp tractor for 8 acres. I agree with adding weight i would say 1000lbs to the rear. Think twice before getting your tires filled. If you plan on using this for your lawn i don't think you'll be happy. I have your next size down being a twin to the 2720 and i would not go any bigger to cut the lawn. Just my 2 cents.

He did say it's 8 now, but could grow to 20. I'm using 47 and 48 hp tractors on 15 acres (could be 50 eventually) and there are plenty of times when I need something much bigger. The amount of land isn't the only factor in sizing equipment....the tasks, the time available, etc all come into play.

You gotta put price in that equation. I'd love a full-size JD with 50+ hp for my 120 acres... But simply can't afford that kind of outlay. The CUT does all that I need, and doesn't tear up soft ground, and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. For those rare occasions when I need a heavy tractor with more power, I call a neighbor with his 65 hp and take care of business. It's cheaper to have good neighbor relations than be in hock.

I wasn't excluding price, but the OP said he's at least considering that size machine, and must know about what they cost.

You say the CUT does all you need, then say sometimes you need to call a neighbor with a larger tractor? Guess the CUT doesn't really do all you need. :confused3:

I'm all for cooperative neighbors....I help mine, and they help me. In the past year I've borrowed the one neighbor's T200 Bobcat, and had him bring over his excavator and backhoe, and then my other neighbor came over to help with a different project:

I come from an old farming background - although my career lay in other areas. But my dad, a full-time farmer, always had enough to handle the routine, and made arrangements for the extraordinary. If I were to win the lottery and money were no object, I would certainly have a large tractor - sitting in a nice new tractor barn/shop with all its implements. But I have a limited income and a tractor shed, so I have a CUT for all I need on a regular basis. I think buying a much larger tractor for use once a year or so is awfully extravagant. I've had to borrow neighbor's stuff only a few times in several years and couldn't afford to have all that extra and expensive horsepower and capacity sitting in my shed for use an hour or two a year. I guess I should have said the CUT does all I "reasonably" or "normally" need.

But I have no issue with people who buy more power than they need if they can afford it. For most folks in such cases the extra tractor capacity rises out of the realm of land utility and becomes hobby/personal interest. And that's great. Reading TBN, many people seem to admit just that.

If I upgrade, it will be to a newer used machine. I can't justify spending $35k or more on a new 5055e for what I do. I have seen 2-3 year old 5045e with under 1000 hours for under $20k. I have a good friend with a farm with a dozer, excavator, pan, and larger tractors if I really need to borrow bigger. I am still leaning towards trying more weight first since I have an almost new tractor that really does what I want, just not as well as a heavier tractor with a longer wheelbase. And sometimes you get a case of "want-a-bigger-tractor-itis" :)

So either keep 3032e and add weight or upgrade to used 4120/50x5e + a riding/zero turn mower, but only if there is a good deal. I don't need to finish mow yet, so the mower would be at least a year or two down the road (if we can ever get our existing house sold so we can build out there).
