I noticed today that one of the "Private Property" signs I put up was gone, along with the post it was attached to.

Kind of expected to find the post nearby, but it's just gone.

Somebody might need a few posts for their project. We added a building at the church and landscaping was done also. 6x6 timbers were used as borders for the flower beds, and those have been disappearing like rabbits in a hat! I considered cutting them halfway into with a chainsaw just to make them no longer usable for structure work, but my luck it wouldn't stop them.

For the life of me, I can't figure out who benefits from blocking that new path.

I'm thinking it is a case of someone taking umbrage at your actions period. They know you had no right to do it, so they undo it just to send a message.
Be careful, the next step is someone coming into your backyard to escalate or prove a point.

Ok, I'm going to suggest something different..

A read recently where a noisy dirt bike was playing nearby and disturbing a neighbor. He was going to do something and then realized that if he was 40 years younger, he would be out there talking to them, finding out more about them and their bike, not trying to chase them off..

Perhaps you could stop and talk to some of them, explain kindly your situation and them to help you solve it... could we move the trail a bit to lessen the noise problem (as you tried)? Approach them from a how can we make a few simple changes to allow the area to stay open. They probably don't want to lose the riding area, so if a few changes can be made to stop it from getting shutdown completely, it benefits all involved.

I probably didn't explain the situation clearly.

The motorcycles / ATV's can just drive around the signs. In either location.

I don't think it was the motorcycle / ATV folks that moved the sign and constructed the concrete barricade (that they can still drive around).

The only explanation that kind of makes sense to me is someone else that doesn't appreciate the motorcycles / ATV's being back there.

But even then, I can't figure out how it benefits anyone to move the sign and construct the barricade.

Yeah, that's kind of where I landed. I took my sign and pulled the my post out of the concrete barricade. I'm still probably going to remove the concrete barricade at some point.

I want to make the new path as inviting as possible, since several people are already using it instead of the old path.

Now that I think it through, maybe someone thought the ATV / motorcycle folks created the new path and are trying to deter them from using it?

A softer approach would be to plant some flowers where you had the post. Most will respect that. The idiots won't, but after a couple times most will have been trained - and nobody gets hurt :)
