Storing post hole auger?

What's the best way to store a post hole auger if you don't have an equipment shed? I have to think that just leaving it sprawled out on the ground can't be good for it. Anybody have pix of a simple stand they made?

you just make a steel Aframe stand like a swing set frame.an make it tall enough to get the auger off the ground.

Not sure I would want the cutting tips sitting at the bottom of a muddy hole, especially if you ever wanted to change them.

The horizontal piece is removable and just sits in the saddles. This setup works VERY good and usually only takes about 5 minutes to get all hooked up with ZERO fighting of the implement.

Thanks Brian, need to build this to make installation easier. Is the hydraulic cylinder for down force on auger?

Yes, the down pressure kit has saved me days in drilling time.

I hang mine from a piece of chain in my equipment shed, just run the chain around the frame about a foot from the gearbox and run a small bolt through it. It hangs off of the ground and I don't have to fight it. I plan on putting up a short piece of sliding door track so I can slide it over to the side out of the way when in storage and slide it back and forth to line up with tractor,

Wr have stored like this for years, never had any trouble with auger bits. LUTT

Best to get a unit built for your PHD. Seems like each manufacturer is just a little bit different. So best to look at a dealer that sells your brand of PHD. I have seen costs from $400-$600.

I hang mine from a limb in the back yard, works for me.

I made an easy one using a wood pallet and 2 2x4's plus an old ground rod. I like it cause i can move the entire thing with the forklift.

If you are referring to the down pressure cylinder for the PHD, I kid you not when I say that it has saved me countless days of drilling time and I don't even drill that many holes.

hay..that looks familiar :laughing:

i just love the fact that i can move it around with the forks when shifting my storage area around between winter and summer use. I have so many implements that i have to swap those needing immediate use up to the front, and those that can be mothballed for 6 months to the rear.

pallets make it an easy chore.
