Tire grooving with my chainsaw

I will be more than happy to report my findings. No change in conditions here for the last few days. My driveway is a skating rink. I'm currently bleeding from my other hand after falling on said rink. Just a little scrape. The next time we get snow I'll fire up the NH and report back.

Here is a question - why does no one just make the R4's with the cuts as a factory tire?

Because they don't want to interfere with chain saw sales.

There used to be a video floating around where someone did 1 rear tire and then tried to drive in some snow. The non-grooved tire just spun and spun. Once he hit the diff lock and forced the engagement to the grooved tire the tractor moved forward. Seemed about as "scientific" as it gets.

I'm not sure it really proves a lot other than two driven tires are better than one??

I still think the very first guy that did this had to be a full time skilled saw user and there had to be some sort of conversation that equated to "hold my beer and watch this". Maybe not those exact words and maybe there was no beer involved but this is how all great discoveries happen.

I think the point was that the non-grooved tire spun first. But then, depending on which side it was on that might be mechanically caused.......

If proof of improvement to you is conditions where you don't even need 4wd now I believe your standards definitely need quantified.

My point was if grooving your tires enables you to perform your work now without 4wd, then the work you are performing is relatively easy. Not sure what your intelligence has to do with that.

Obviously the work prior to grooving was very easy work, because the R4's couldn't do much work.

I think I am pro pallet, but If I only knew why they were stacked against each other in fields, I could be more sure. If only the person who shall remain nameless had but brought this information to its logical conclusion we would all know the answer to that burning question, and could be sure of our stance in the important but unresolved pallet debate.
