Last week I pulled a 12' single axle trailer with my Kawasaki Mule FX 1000 on it to the deer camp which is 100 miles away.

The fuel mileage dropped to 14.8 mpg. I was really surprised how much the mileage dropped with a small trailer.

There's a lot of drag from something like a Kawasaki mule on a trailer, but 28 to 14.8 seems extreme. Does towing automatically kick that GMC out of overdrive?

I pulled some small rental trailer a while ago that had two tall hinged load ramps that stuck up 6' or above the trailer bed. (Non-removable) I don't recall the mileage drop, but every wind gust or fast truck passing the trailer pushed and pulled it around, so I am sure the mileage took a hit.

Daily driver 2004 Saturn Ion - about 28 mpg. This car has 128,000 miles on and looks like it has 300,000 but just keeps going. And if something does break its cheap to fix.

Work Truck - 2012 Ram 3500 diesel - about 15 mpg mixed driving, 11 towing heavy, and 18 hwy. This one has 318,000 miles on it and is how all trucks should be built. I had no repairs outside of normal wear and tear until 280,000. From 280k to 310k I did radiator, turbo, transmission, and a delete due to egr failure. It is still my daily work truck.

Pavement princess - 2023 Ram 3500 diesel. About 14 mpg mixed driving, around 16-17 hwy, and 10 towing heavy. Man this is a nice truck. So nice I just can't get myself to dump the 2012 and turn this into my daily work truck. Mainly using it for when I'm long hauling for my business or family trips and also due to the cost of these new trucks. I'll put the wear and tear on the 2012 until the next major failure, likely injectors, and then decide whether or not to dump the 2012 and start abusing this one daily.

I'd like to tell you that I know the exact mileage - but I'm still trying to figure out the dashboard controls. Today I go in to Lithia Chrysler( Spokane, WA ) for a learning session on all these controls.

You don’t know how to find the odometer? Or a trip meter? Those are the only trustworthy tools in measuring MPG.

Fill tank with fuel. Reset a trip meter. Drive. Refill tank with fuel. Divide miles driven by gallons filled. Miles-per-gallon.

If Oosik truck is like mine its accessed in the different menus available on the heads up display directly behind the steering wheel. I believe all of those are accessible using the left hand up/down/left/right buttons on the steering wheel. If his is like mine with the large touch screen center console screen it can get a bit overwhelming if you are new to this. Once you dive into it it's actually pretty simple. You can also do a lot through the uconnect voice button on your steering wheel and Ive found it recognizes commands much better than our Ford did. You can turn heated seats, wheel on off via voice, adjust temp, change radio stations, start navigation etc all via voice.

Not precise numbers, but that Jeep went from about 1 to 2 mpg.

The biggest discrepancy I've seen is 8% optimistic, but I have occasionally seen the Lie-O-Meter in one vehicle show less than actual mileage.

I dunno about that. I've compared the displayed MPG on my vehicles against calculated and they were within a few % of each other.

Every vehicle I’ve checked the lie o meter was close except one. It was a 2004 Dodge with a Cummins and it had a performance chip added, I suspect that messed it up. It showed about 5mpg better than hand calculated.
