Why do I need an L3130???

Go with the L3130.

I did.

Love it. No regrets whatsoever. I have only about 8 acres and I think I need a big tractor...hehehe. foolish me...it's just
more funner. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Seriously tho, you really need to think it thru tho. Read all the posts on BX or L3130 or B7800 and alot of us went the extra $$ and got bigger because alot of us figured we would only purchase one tractor purchase. If you plan on trading in your tractors every so often, maybe rethink your plan.

Go with the L3130! You'll be able to get many chores done in half the time. I now have almost 90 hours on my L3130 and can only say I am glad I did not go any smaller.

( Why do you need a L3130??? Because you have 100 acres.

You know you actually need a L5030 with 100 acres, but you don't want to spend more than the cost of a BX, so you are compromising for the L3130HST, a great tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

Well now just wait a doggone minute before you guys spend all my money for me. I was telling you that it was 100 acres sure, but I was remiss cuz I didn't tell you its in WV where its mostly hilly and wooded. I am concerned that in reality I will have only 4 acres max to really work with and a smaller tractor might get in between trees better and be better on the hills than a bigger frame.

Life is short. The amount of free time we have is even less. Until you buy this thing, you'll be constantly rolling over in your mind the problem of what tractor you should buy.

You'll be researching it on the web, bugging other tractor owners and poking around equipment lots trying to determine the answer. You'll be wasting precious time that the tractor, if you owned it, could save while putting accomplishments within your reach that you can only wonder about now. Take it from one who's been there. Some people think this ritual is fun. Not me. I'd rather get on with it and put the machine to work.

If you buy a lesser tractor and encounter shortcomings (which you will) you'll kick yourself for not going bigger and the money spent will be difficult to recoup if you decide to go bigger later. You'll encounter shortcomings with the L3130 as well, but then you can say, "Good thing I didn't get anything smaller!" and pat yourself on the back.

If anything, go a little bigger. See if there are any deals around for an L3430 or L3830 before settling on the L3130. More power in the same package size. Having more power than you need isn't really a problem. You just won't have to work the machine as hard to get the same amount of work done.

FWIW.

I first bought an L3400 4WD DT with a FEL around December 14th or there about. I had a 140 Farmall for 23 years and traded it in on the L3400. I had used L3400 for less than 3 hours and I knew it wasn't for me. It is a great tractor, it was strong, but I was used to something a little bigger. Some of these same guys that are repling to your message steered me to the L3130 GST with a fel. This tractor is more of what I am used to and a lot more. I appreciate their advice. The L3400 went back and we bought the L3130 GST. I was about 26 years old when we got the 140 Farmall, now I am 50 and this will probably be my last tractor and it is just fine.

You need cause you got 100 acres.
You need it cause it needs a home!

I am going on 500 hours for a 1999 L3010 GST - I wish I had gotten a slightly bigger tractor at times and I am on 20 acres.

I have friends on 5 acres that bought a BX series tractor and while they think they got the right tractor, more than once they have commented that it takes more time to do tasks due to smaller capacity and less brute strength and weight.

My terrain is just like the mountainous area in WV. You will need weight and you will not find this with a BX model. Buy the biggest tractor you can afford. The only wasted money will be when you trade in a smaller tractor to get a larger one. Save now and buy the larger tractor.
