Wrong tool for the job

Stump removal is definitely a chore but well worth the effort. Sure is nice when the mess is cleaned up and gone.

I use a 3 pt hitch mounted Woodland Mills stump grinder on my MF. I grind them low enough so the brush hog doesn't contact them. Ground level is adequate for me. I do this on our logging trails in order to keep them usable for hunting season and firewood collection. If I were clearing land for cultivation, this method wouldn't work.

Well its a little late in this thread but for whom ever it might help. A saws all or reciprocating saw with a 12 inch blade on it for cutting the roots works great. Dig a bit, see a root, stick the saws all blade in the dirt and cut it. Does not dull instantly like a chain saw does.

Now then, for the safety part. Call what ever utility locate company is in your area first. You might be surprised where lines are ran and that a tree has grown right over them.

Very good and valuable points. That would save the sharpness ofa chain on a chain saw.
