I don't know if this qualifies, but it is what I use to haul my tractors. The new trucks with all the EPA crud on the engines really didn't appeal to me. I'd rather have something I could fix without needing a computer and PHD in electronics. I found this 1976 White for a very reasonable price and a trailer to go with it. The mileage could be better, but considering the whole thing was less than $6k I can afford some fuel.

What engine and trans in it? Looks like a good, clean Road Commander. Check out American Truck Historical Society , several members in the NY area.

The White being more than 26 years old qualifies for historical plates, so that is $28.75 a year. Insurance comes in at $322 for truck and trailer. State inspections are $30 each year. The trailer plate would be $20 a year, but it is prorated, so if I don't register it till April or May it is less. I've been driving truck for over 40 years, so the CDL isn't something I would need to get. The state is making it cumbersome to renew and keep the medical certs up, but that is because I don't want a restricted CDL. I go to truck shows, antique tractor and steam shows, as well as construction "Play" days. It keeps me busy and mostly out of trouble.

Jesse1, Here's the specs on the "Road Commode". Engine - 6V92 TT Trans. - RT9509A Rear axle - 3.70. I'm one of those NY ATHS members. I've seen some of your posts on "Classic White Trucks" Getting in the sleeper was a bit easier 24 years ago.:D

I've seen the pictures. Some of those folks have more into the paint jobs than I have in the whole rig. If I had a truck like that it would be a trailer queen, not a working truck. I'm trying to figure how to "Paint" the lower part of the truck with something like bed liner. Every time I haul the chains out of the cab to chain down I end up chipping the paint under the door. I'm thinking of removing the right side fuel tank and replacing it with a chain locker. Right now 96 gallons of fuel in one tank is hard enough on the wallet.

Up here, you'd need at least a restricted Class A CDL to run that legally - how are the regs down your way ?

That's awesome! Do you need a cdl with air brakes? What weight do you have it registered at?

I think a CDL-A has to have air endorsement unless there is a restriction for no air . When the CDL went Federal we all had to take the written test for it. I've got an alphabet soup in the endorsements section. As far as weight, the tractor rear axle is 19,000, the trailer axles are 20,000, so that would be 39,000 less the weight of the trailer. The fifth wheel doesn't slide so weight transfer to the front axle really doesn't enter into the formula as far as I'm concerned. The trailer is rather light duty, and the tractor is only single axle drive. If it were a standard weight trailer, the trailer axles in NY, would be good for 34,000 without a permit. A tandem axle tractor would be good for 34,000 on the drives and 12,000 on the steer. That would put you at 80,000 gross.

Just replaced my '05 Work Truck Silverado with a '12 Crew Cab. Not sure if I'm going to be able to live with the 5.5' bed. Wanted the cab space for the kids.
2012 5.3L/3.42, has factory backup camera etc.

Two weeks ago I replaced my Dodge with this 2014 GMC Double Cab.........wanted the 6 ft 6 box so passed on the larger crew cab. The 6 ft 6 box can fit my ATV with tailgate half up , so I can still haul the boat with box loaded with ATV.
I added the Leer cap this week , but I have a location behind the garage that I can slide that on and off on to a platform.
No chance yet to haul the landscape trailer and tractor, but it has five more HP than the Dodge had so I expect it will be fine.

Two weeks ago I replaced my Dodge with this 2014 GMC Double Cab.........wanted the 6 ft 6 box so passed on the larger crew cab. The 6 ft 6 box can fit my ATV with tailgate half up , so I can still haul the boat with box loaded with ATV.
I added the Leer cap this week , but I have a location behind the garage that I can slide that on and off on to a platform.

Yes bdeboer ........Lucy our Australian Shepherd is well loved........enough so that she already has first dibs on the front passenger seat.

A contractor working on a Hospital project has a 2014 Super Duty F350 and is really impressed with it's towing ability... he has a special built tag trailer rated at 18k and will tow anything from multiple scissor lifts to mini excavators.

One of the guys that works for him spun the rear truck tires on dry pavement towing the dozer because he didn't realize the power is has when leaving from a stop light near the shop... the regular Diesel he drives takes putting your foot into it to get everything moving...

Several of the guys have 2006 F250 Diesels and are very pleased with them... for what it is worth.

Not trying to take anything away from the 2014 but my old 97 would easily spin the tires on dry pavement.
