My 4cyl Ranger averages 25mpg in the summer while my v8 full size averages 16.5mpg. I would be happy with a truck that is slotted in between the two with that 3.6L v6.

Get a 5.0 F-150 and get 18-19 MPG.

To answer the question directly - something like $15k Canadian off list price would be my guesstimate - versus the 3/4 ton diesels us peasants are currently allowed to Pay Tribute for.

The present quasi-prohibition we have here on diesels is mostly due to high level business maneuvering, and has little/nothing to due with pollution. (I'd invite anyone who seriously disagrees with that statement to stand next to an idling "modern" diesel while it goes through a Regen cycle, then get back to me).

I'd say a better question to ask is "How much money should we be able to save, with a stripped down, low cost compact diesel pickup" - both initial purchase price and operating cost could be significantly lower than anything upcoming that we will be Allowed to Pay Tribute For.

Rgds, D.

No money in selling "a stripped down, low cost compact diesel pickup".

The 4.5 Duramax has been dead so long the Buzzards no longer circle the corpse.
Best you can hope for is the DOHC 3.0L VM diesel built by Tony. The inline 3, Inline 4 and V6 have all been successfully in service for years by various vehicle manufactures.

I had a insider from Ford tell me that they had been talking to Kubota about building a 2.5L 4cyl diesel for a Ranger in the US market.

Now that's a tease, especially on THIS site!:licking:

Get a 5.0 F-150 and get 18-19 MPG.

The neighbors ecoboost F150 is averaging only .1mpg better than my 5.3L and we do similar driving.

I'm thinking if the 3.6L Colorado 4x4 could average 21mpg for me and do my work, that would be great. Plus, it would fit in the garage better than a full size.

Keep in mind this new truck is designed as a "slim" Silverado, and I think only weighs 900 pounds less.
There seems to be an age old problem about wanting to design the weight out of these trucks, for better CAFE, but then they don't have the strength or the towing guts to pull a rated load comfortably. Bring in the new truck at 4500 pounds and boy would that diesel fly. I just cannot see getting 30-35mpg with any truck that can really pull a load. For the gentleman farmer or the commuter, or weekend warrior that goes to Home Depot, without heavy towing needs, they are going to have to get a lot more weight out of this truck before higher mpg figures are gained, and then, would it be a good "truck"??

A little known fact is that izuzu builds these engines for gm there the largest diesel engin builder in the world

Err, might want to check your little known facts. Dmax was a joint between Isuzu and GM, (but everyone knew that) and from what I've read it is now solely controlled by GM.
