Interesting...

There was a tow package raising the tow capacity to around 9000 lbs.

My brothers is a Crew Cab long bed PRO-4X rated at 7000 lbs (700 tongue) but with the tow package it's 9000/900.
He doesn't have it which may explain the soft rear suspension.

compared to Silverado crew cabs: Colorado CC will be 5" narrower, 3" lower, 16" shorter, 900 pounds lighter. The longest one will be 224.5" long. 2.8L diesel 197hp, 369 ft-lb estimate.

Looks pretty nice. Be about right with a small V8.

The revised 4.3 that is in the big trucks would be good too. Less hp but more tq than the 3.6L

I want to see one on real time..So far, it looks like a winner for the mid-size buyers.

Yeah but like the point that has been best to death in the ram Eco diesel thread. That is 9000 lbs best case scenario probably based off a regular cab 2wd.

Yep. Page 26: http://www.nissanusa.com/pdf/techpubs/2008/2008NissanTowingGuide.pdf

Boy you sure do repeat the same stories alot don't ya?
The F350 doesn't leave without 10k lbs right? Ha ha!

Also, you haven't hauled a large travel trailer with it right?

EcamD, Chris/Diamondpilot might not deserve this level of sarcasm.
I think he has hauled more stuff than most of us combined.

I thought this was pretty stupid commentary.
Maybe he wanted a 60 or 70% truck, not an 80% Silverado/Sierra, from a styling standpoint,
but it would still cost almost as much as the big truck and who would pay for it?

2015 GMC Canyon
Let's get right to it -- there really weren't any bad cars at this year's Detroit auto show. Most everybody brought their A-game this year, so picking the dud really boils down to a matter of personal preference. For me, it was the 2015 GMC Canyon. From a powertrain standpoint, the Canyon is impressive (well, except for the base 2.5-liter I-4), but visually the Canyon just doesn't do it for me. Whereas the related Colorado stands out from the Silverado, the Canyon looks so much like the Sierra, to the point that the two are in-distinguishable at first glance. With the Canyon already so close in size to the Sierra, why bother getting a Canyon over a Sierra? That's the same question that ultimately led to the last-gen Canyon's demise. --

a close friend of mine has the last gen Canyon, a crew cab in that very unusual burnt orange color.
He loves it.
It is a very distinctive eye catching truck, the only one like that I've seen.
He overloads it at times with firewood or landscaping rock, and it's kept on trucking.
The interior is that old school GM taxicab look, all that shiny vinyl, but it seems easy to clean.
5 cylinder automatic. Barely adequate with any load.
He loves it.
He's in no rush and lives locally.
Limited budget and even buying this truck used was a stretch. But it was spotless and remains so.

The point? His needs and expectations are not pushing the envelope for a new truck.
He would likely never buy a V8.
In its base form, the one you really do drive out with in the low twenties, this new style "compact" truck
would be huge to him. And if it looked like the "big boys", which for some reason many guys want to emulate,
so much the better.

I test drove/sat the last gen Colorado, because it had a great motor, the small block V8. I never started the engine, the interior and seat were so
bad I never got past that point. The seat was very low to the floor and uncomfortable. I mean no insult to current owners...

With full size trucks with six and small eight cylinder engines available for the same price, as MT pointed out, why bother getting the Canyon?
With this new truck, I think we may finally have a good answer for that.
Too bad this thing couldn't have the diesel on its rollout.
That would drive demand pretty hard I think
