I'm more along the lines that our society is already a pretty big bummer they way it is. If it gets to the point of the wild west due to nuclear fallout, put me in the camp that I'd probably not want to be here.

Besides that, if you believe in a higher power, hopefully there are better things that are going to happen sooner or later because no matter what, you're not going to be here on this earth and we all are living on borrowed time.

If you're an atheist, well...

"I close my eyes
Only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh
Now, don't hang on
Nothin' lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy"

seems to sum it up pretty well ;)

Oh, for sure I want to be here. I'm protected from the big city flash by a few hills. Prevailing winds will move any fallout to the east of me. I'm not a prepper but I have fixin's for a while and enough gas to move if necessary. Standing my ground is my first choice though. And I'm ready for that too. ;)

The issue becomes the age of people you're moving and how, and exactly how much supplies you have to move ;)

Everyone can stand their ground, the question becomes exactly how long can you stand your ground via a protective parameter? (even is the answer is "forever").

Comes back to the age old question of how many rounds you'd want to carry in what caliber and for how long?

Sincere question, do you believe in a God?

Putin has been threatening this, that and the other since he started his second Ukraine invasion. Once the Ukrainians fought back, Putin was a dead man walking. It is only a question of how long, how many people have to die and be wounded, how much destruction, and how much money is spent before Putin dies, either of health reasons, or from a Brutus. Since there will not be an invasion to take over Russia, Putin will not be in a bunker surrounded by the enemy and willing the destruction of Russia for failing him so a nuke exchange is not likely. I could see him popping off a tactical nuke, he certainly keeps threatening such nonsense but that is not likely to end well for him.

The Ukrainian attack with British Storm Shadow missiles appears to have hit a command post and reports say wounded a North Korean general. That might have been the general very close to the North Korean Dear Leader. Given they Ukrainians had a drone flying over the HQ filming the strike, they would have known when the command post was occupied fully and attacked it for the most impact, so to speak. The Storm Shadow missile has two warheads to help destroy buried and hardened structures. There is a video from a guy on the ground as the missiles fly over and exploded. You can hear the dual warheads exploding. It will be interesting when it becomes known how many officers, and who, where killed. They information always leaks out. The number of high ranking officers that have been killed is astounding and that is not counting the ones they keep falling down stairs and out windows.

The bigger issue is the bombs the Russians tried to put on commercial aircraft in the last week or so, the continued cutting of communication cables, and the drone flying over US and NATO bases in the US and Europe. Putin has manged to make NATO larger and stronger because of Ukraine while drastically weakening Russia. Russia is running out of weapons. They are having to use artillery that was made in the late 1940's and 1950's. They are having to pull tanks out of storage that were made in the 1950's. They only have a year or so of weapons left before they have run out of tanks and artillery. They don't have the capacity to build the weapons to replace what is lost in combat. I have read/seen reports that the Ukrainians now are firing more artillery than the Russians at least in some areas of the front.

The Ukrainians have been slowly loosing ground for the most part this year but the Russians are paying a huge price in blood and equipment. They are running out of both. They Ukrainians are certainly suffering losses so it really is a question who will be the last man standing. No matter how the war ends, Russia will be pushed backwards at many levels for decades, if not a century, because of Putin.

In school students would ask how could Germans support someone like ****** and how could one person put the world at war and more importantly will it happen again.

We had a WWII decorated combat vet speak and he said it was the war to end wars and Atomic Bomb mutually assured destruction is the single great deterrent to a repeat.

I’m thinking the lessons of history are easily forgotten?

Also Europeans I know said Russia is too smart to risk loosing the vast income from the West…

MAD is certainly a thing. Mutually Assured Destruction. I don't want it to happen. I have a wonderful wife and 3 amazing children, if someone tries to take them I will certainly be upset.

Looking at it from our point of view, no one wants this.

But look at it from putins point of view. If he loses this, he'll be killed, and go down in history as the one that destroyed russia. So losing is not an option. From his point of view, it's either win or draw. Winning means he takes ukraine, and a draw looks more like MAD.

He won't lose, so no matter what we give or what ukraine does, he will continue to escalate, and if that reaches the point of nukes, so be it.

Shows that a single person can change the world…

My high school had a catche of Civil Defense supplies and nearby a huge diesel powered air raid siren tower…

They were removed after the wall came down and Russia no longer deemed a threat.

Years ago I viewed a home for-sale with a fallout shelter…

I still have a Geiger counter from the 1950’s I picked up and a quart of Lugol’s Iodine unopened.

Perhaps I'm the only one, but who didn't think that the Ukraine would last more than a couple of months before they surrendered?

When you take a look at the amount of Russian casualties for what is being gained, it's mind boggling.

And the couple of guys that had an issue with the way Putin was handling things went down in a plane crash, go figure...

Russia wants back some or all of a single Soviet Union country, on the other side of the world. BFD. I don’t like our government war mongers threatening us all with nuclear war over this. We have plenty of issues here we could be focusing on.

No one wants to introduce the idea that we would just Take the first bomb, millions killed and then do nothing but a conventional war in retaliation. Its off the table, in thinking by SAC. Its a very strange ethical question. If a nuke hits the east coast from N. Korea, do we send 82 nukes back and kill everyone of that nation? Its one guy that decided this. Not all the people that lived there. We are giving this power again, in our own country, to a man that has made near messianic statements. Brinkmanship only goes so far. :(

Maybe being unpredictable or projecting an image of just being crazy enough keeps one from being messed with?

I guess the problem is when 2 or more of these personalities butt heads?

Putin clearly said before the world his massing of military was on boarder was not to invade... he also said he was there to save Ukraine when he did invade which he showed via military strikes and looting for safe keeping.

More than a few I know don't say they are not going to live in fear of something they have no control over and a few others also think the rapture is near...

I've pondered what a world would be like post Putin but my guess is no shortage of bad actors waiting in the wings.

Putin's claims fearing Russia would be invaded are laughable... at least up to the time he started this.

The real winner could very well be China in the long game...

Far superior manufacturing and always thinking the long game...

The old phrase enough rope to hang yourself comes to mind in the China/Russia relationship.

It's a shame, but yes. But to not respond to a nuke would be catastrophic and would send a clear message to our enemies that we don't have the stones to respond.

I'm thinking the other way. Do we have the stones to not escalate? Wrong as as that might be. Its like the ethical question of turning the run-away train one way or the other. We have one way to pull that switch on the table. And that switch is MAD. It kills the switcher, everyone on the train and both the results of either choice.

If we don't respond, europe will be known as west russia in 10 years. Bad guys only back down to one type of response, and that's strength. We're a bit weak right now and look at what they're doing.

We promised Russia we would never put NATO, aka… US military weapons, directly on Russia’s border… aka Ukraine. We broke our promise.
Putin’s invasion is because we installed zelensky and are threatening to make them NATO ..
Who’s the instigator? Who’s the bad guy?
There’s always a lot more to real world politics than what you’ll “learn” from your government propaganda.
We’ve totally caused this whole situation. It’s what we do.

What explains Putin telling the world his massing of military on the boarder is not a threat to Ukraine and from his mouth Russia is not going into Ukraine?

As a side note... Putin has said Austria is a model country if neutrality... and had nothing to fear from Russia...

How does this work in a Nuclear War?

He obviously places no value on his own citizens so enough said.
