Value of 2008 PT-425 With Seized Motor

Very little as the buyer can't check to see if anything else is wrong with it. You are better off getting it fixed.

Side mounted fire starter. Red Hot exhaust

IMHO it is just the nature of gasoline engines. Think of your fuel consumption to get 25 hp and compare to what my PT1460 uses (<10 gallons in 10 hours) for 60 hp. It is waste heat going out the exhaust.

    New grapple

You will love it. I use my grapple a lot. Just make sure you have a little clearance between the upper "dog bone" ball joint and the quick attach plate during ALL phases of movement and load. You don't want the quick attach plate putting load directly on the outside of the ball joint as it...

Question on the PT boom mower hyd supply

The boom linkage has it's own 3 spool control valve and needs hyd power. So the one aux circuit from the quick disconnect control converts to 3 circuits of the mower.

Question on the PT boom mower hyd supply

I will take a look. The 1460 has a lot more room between the "dash" and the valve and the angle is not a direct shot, more like pushing forward more then down. I was hoping that it should have came with a device to hold it and I was missing it. thanks for your input!

Question on the PT boom mower hyd supply

I just bought the used boom mower that was on the PT site. Can anyone shed light on how the aux hyd circuit (quick attach control) is held permanently in the on position? Any other advice on the attachment?

    Brush cutter maintainance question

I just bought the used PT1460 boom mower that was on the site. In doing the maintenance before use, it has a standard "off the shelf" flange bearing on the hydraulic motor output shaft, between the motor and the blade and it has a grease fitting. Easily overlooked and camouflaged with debris.

    Repower or Sell PT-425...?

Bad electrical connection. Put it all back together and as you do, clean all connections until bright (then protect with film of oil or grease or a product like Copper Shield). Then report back if it isn't normal.

    Repower or Sell PT-425...?

You could look for a local AUTO ELECTRIC shop. That is a place that rebuilds starters and alternators and everything else electric that can be rebuild in vehicles. They will replace the bushings, brushes, and elect contacts in the starter and it is usually inexpensive. They usually are...

    PT Manual

As far as oil, I have 20 gallons of AW hydraulic fluid ISO46 to use in something. It is designed for hydraulic excavators. It seems to me that everything a hyd excavator has and does is identical to the Power trac. I am tempted to use it.

    PT Manual

On my PT1430 when using a hyd flail mulcher, I have to let it rest after a few hours in hot weather. I notice it first in the lack of torque in the wheel motors. I haven't changed the extra large fittings for the PTO on my PT1460 to fit the mower yet. Looks like I won't get to try the flail...

100 hour service of hyd filter on PT180

Sorry for the delay, I didn't know that you now have click watch to monitor post that you authored. It is the Subrau Wisconsin Robin (can't see the emblem on the back and haven't thought about it in a few years). Runs like a top and a lot of torque but sucks down a lot of fuel. I also have 2...

    8 amp draw too much?

Is it possible to secure the wires right after they exit the motor? Zip tie to fan cage or so they dont flex as hood vibrates.
  16. m5040

    8 amp draw too much?

The short answer is yes, 8 amps is too much for an aux cooling fan.
  17. m5040

    8 amp draw too much?

And after you add in the headlights, you need some more to charge the battery and don't forget any other electric draws (PTO toggle switch controlling electromagnetic hydraulic valve). AND if it is 15 amp charging system, that makes the 15 amps at 3/4 to full throttle with the alternator cool...

100 hour service of hyd filter on PT180

I just did the 2nd hydraulic filter change on my PT180 and cut it open to see how it looked. Not too bad, some flakes as expected. This is in combination with a (regularly cleaned) magnet hanging in the hyd tank. (You probably shouldn't use a hacksaw to cut it open as it will generate a lot...

    PT Manual

So that chart indicates they all turn to water like consistency when hot. And if they end up being all the same when at operating tempreature, why not just use the 5w-30 and make it easier to start? I don't see any bennifit in having thick oil for that short period of time until it warms up.
  20. m5040

    PT Manual

It is weird. PT is a small company and appears not to have a proof reader. You could call Terry and ask him. IMHO, what do you use your tractor for and what time of year? If you mostly use it in the warmer weather, then go for the 10w-40. If you use it only to snow blow your driveway, use...

My PT180 does the same thing without full throttle. Think of the funny cars at the dragway with the open header single exhaust and you see fire coming out of each pipe.

  32. m5040

Going to Tazewell tomorrow to buy.....

I have a 1430 and a 1460. If the 1460 is in your range, try it out. It can tackle hills and roll over rocks without a grunt. The 1430 feels the hills and rocks, but I don't run mine at full throttle either, but same as the 1460.

    45 degrees is steep

Sometime you gotta do what you gotta do if you want the job done. That is why they get paid the big bucks. It is nice knowing the PT has side hill capabilities superior to most if not all farm tractors even if you don't need them.

    Money where my mouth is.

I use my Titan tree puller a lot for pulling out brush and small trees (just be careful that when you lift the large ones and tilt it back it will go into the hyd cooler fan). It will pull fence post with easy and speed.

    Hiccup in power trac plans

I think with the hydraulic purge issue, there are two areas, the 3rd valve and the PTO. When I purchase Titan attachments (China made), I would always purge out the hydraulic cylinder in the 3rd valve circuit. For those that may have not thought about this, when a hydraulic cylinder is full...

    Money where my mouth is.

I would just get the 54" grapple bucket and not the 4 in 1, teeth, and 60" bucket. The grapple bucket comes with teeth, and it is far superior for handling brush compared to the 4 in 1 with is really only good for getting higher dump height. Try out the stump cutter to see if it works like you...

    Hiccup in power trac plans

I don't know if you are aware, but Power Trac uses commerically available off-the-shelf hydraulic components. Motors can be brand X, pumps brand Y, valves brand Z. I would think for all the different manufacturers to agree on the exact same types of oil, that being only 15w-40 motor oil is...

    Hiccup in power trac plans

I have the same problem. I only change implements between Power Tracs. My Kubota has ultra expensive synthetic hyd oil. But if I had to interchange implements, I would change the hyd oil in the Power Trac to match the Kubota. I can't believe that the oil used in a high performance tractor...

    45 degrees is steep

To me it appears that the picture of the Antonio Carraro with the guy pulling on the ROPS has the topside chained to the tilted bed as you can see the chain in place. A great feature of the Power Trac 14XX series is it's ability to operate on side hills if you intend to do so or not, some day...

Power Trac Real World Loader Lift Capacity

IMO it is the tipping load with the machine articulated which shortens the effective length of the machine and brings the counterweight (engine) closer to the load. The big advantage of the 14XX series is they can work on side slopes, the other machines need relatively flat ground.
  43. m5040

  44. m5040

    2xxx series users??

If you are going to look at this 2445 make sure you try all the hydraulics. Power Trac will not sell a hyd mower with the 24XX series tractor because they don't have a large enough oil cooler and will overheat. So there is a chance this machine will have ongoing problems with the hydraulic...

    2xxx series users??

I recently bought a 1460 and prior to, I looked at Giant. One thing with those that was a deal killer for me is their extremely limited ability to operate on a side slope. I loved the paint quality and the ability to lock all the hyd motors mimicking a differential lock. But I have mostly...

    Noise levels

You have to use ear protection, period. The engine noise comes out of the cylinder area and is common with all non-water cooled diesels. The Deutz being oil cooled doesn't have the thick water jackets surrounding the cylinders that absorbs noise. The engine compartments are mostly open to...

Deutz 4 cyl. diesel start, stall, run slow, stop, repeat

It shouldn't need one on the other side of the filter. It would be the same theory as putting a straw in your drink and when you cap off the top of the straw, you can lift it out without loosing any liquid. Obviously the fuel tank side needs one (or a clamp) because the tank is vented, like...

Deutz 4 cyl. diesel start, stall, run slow, stop, repeat

Diesels are not the best application to put fuel shut off valves in, unless you are using it to only help with a fuel filter change. If you put it in to stop a leak, it only cuts off the supply and the leak may continue. Then when you try to start it, there will be a slug of air which can...

    Welp, baptized my PT-425 today.

Wish I had a hyd schematic to see where possible leaks may occur. For a rough guess, I would cap each wheel motor brake line off one at a time and see if the leakdown goes away when you isolate the leaking brake. I was wondering how the park brakes worked. By your description, they are held...

    Welp, baptized my PT-425 today.

What happens when your accumulator wears out? I would recommend putting a wrench on everything you could get to easily. Then determine if you want to do the harder stuff by how much you find loose (seat bolts, cooler bolts, wheel lug nuts, etc). Of course you have to check the center pin as...

Question for 1460 owners on center pin lubrication

Now the way I understand it, the upper forward is a 50 hour grease interval, correct?
  55. m5040

Question for 1460 owners on center pin lubrication

The only problem with the "convenience" theroy is you still have to walk around to the other side to grease the upper pin. And like Henery Ford and the model T, Power Trac doesn't put to many convenient only features on the tractors, I mumble every time I carry a chain in my lap.

Say good bye to the diesel 1430

And there is a reason for that. The pre-emissions diesels were supposed to be good for close to 10,000 with proper maintenance. Doubt that will get that on a air cooled aluminum block gas engine. Then there is the fuel consumption issue. My 65 hp Deutz gets about 1 gal per hour for general...

Say good bye to the diesel 1430

That would seem to be the engine. At 132 lbs for the Kohler and Deutz at 400 lbs (adding in 14 lbs for a starter, alt and cooler), they may start adding a counterweight. Or tire ballast. Other questions, will it now be green, the gas tractor color. With no instrumentation (since that came...

    425 Emergency Brake

If the machine is left out in the weather and you seldom use the park brake, it could be getting rusted and that would cause it to not fully release, or, If you force it to release instead of finding that sweet spot where it will fall out, you might have stretched the cable or caused it to pull...

19.5 hours, fuel consumption for a diesel 1460

It was a pricy grapple, but when I see them for sale they seem to hold their value. It works nice to be able to spin the load for whatever reason - getting around trees or loading to keep in certain direction. Also when picking stuff up, you can approach from any angle. I ended up buying it...

19.5 hours, fuel consumption for a diesel 1460

Same as my 1430, I installed a diverter valve in the hoist (loader raise/lower) circuit. Then a Scorpion joy stick that has a trigger and 2 push buttons. The trigger switch changes from hoist up/down to implement, so that closes/opens the grapple. Rayan's log grapple comes with it's own...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

Sometimes I wonder if everyone gets a different story. If you look at the specs the 1460 is 3" wider and the engine, which is the heaviest part, I was told sits lower. Those to facts usually add up to greater side stability. I always had a hard time telling which tractor I was looking at...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

I thought hard about the 1445, especially since there is a low hour used on about 2 hrs away. I figured the price was so close 30k vs 27k between the 1460 and 1445. If your going to spend that much, why not go another $3,000 and get substantially more lift ability, AND A FOOT HIGHER LIFT, more...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

The only neg on the brake system is what to do if the engine is inop? You need to have some kind of very hi pressure pump and connect into the brake block to release them. Not to bad if on your property, but I sometimes use the tractor to pick up stuff offsite, it would be a problem if in a...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

Great, probably one of the best features. Brakes on all four wheels, so it holds the tractor on steep hills, easy on and off with just a click of a toggle switch. And if you leave it in the off position, when you shut down the engine, it comes on anyway (and when you restart, it shuts off)...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

Thanks for the suggestion. I would love radial tires, but until they come with them from the factory, I don't think I will wear out the originals. My problem was severely over inflated tires, problem corrected and it works like it should. Power Trac has the engine in the back so it doesn't...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

IMO Loader or loaded tires, you would still want the tire to flex to match the ground contour. Mine are loader tires too, with 40 psi you could drive over a baseball and the tire wouldn't deform.
  76. m5040

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

"Can you post a photo of "good" squat?" I looked and it is hardly noticeable and would not show well in a picture. If your tires are over inflated, I would take the valve core out and just watch close as it deflates, when you see any bulge, put the valve core back in and measure what you...

9K lb winch mounted to 2 inch forklift receiver

Best thing to look for is a hydraulic winch, then your duty cycle will be close to 100% (you could also install a circuit relief and limit the amount of pull). With all winch operations, you should always pull straight (forward or back) off the tractor. Not only can you bend the loader arms...

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

Good, that is in the range I thought, except for the 10 ply tires. As the air was coming out and the pitch was slowing, I started to wonder if the tires would squat if they had no air, but they eventually did.

1460 poor traction, gets stuck easy

Well I started a job on a fairly steep hill and was very disappointed in how easily the 1460 spun the wheels and soon couldn't move up the hill. Nice flat ground. The other day I did basically the same thing, only it was to pull a trailer backward up a steep hill. Everything went fine and when I went to change the implement, I noticed THAT I FORGOT TO LOCK THE IMPLEMENT ON. That was because I put the tow adapter on by hand with the...

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

So Peter, since you lube yours well and often, do you or have you ever noticed a color change (if you use colored grease to start with) with the grease as it exits out around the sides of the center Z link?
  85. m5040

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I just starting building a table top splitter using what looks like the same splitter only with a different name. It must move pretty quick powered by the PT as the specs are much higher then farm tractors.
  86. m5040

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I noticed that too. I use green John Deere and it comes out black. And that pivot Z is not repairable. With the color change thought, I am going to wonder if I put enough grease in? It makes a big mess as it works out and gets all over the hoses.
  87. m5040

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I see no problem with changing the pin/bolts, or just drilling out the factory one and then cross drill it. But the question is, why? The PT engineering says just the spray lube is sufficient and nobody here has worn them out (that I know of). The spray keeps the tractor much cleaner...

That doesn't look bad to me from the pic. You may want to snap a side view showing how much lower the tooth is. Most brands are a little lower then the edge. Some brands like the ones PT (and others) sell are bolt on. So if you dont need them you can remove them. The only problem would be...

At the factory, the lift capacity seemed low when I filled the bucket heaping and it was sluggish when raising. Terry said it had to wear in. I am not totally sure yet. I was unloading a generator that I loaded offsite with the 1430 and a towing adapter (basically no attachment weight). The...

When you are jealous of me having it, just think of the checkbook and you will feel better. The little I got to see of the used one (operation) it seemed ok. Tires were about 60-70%.They repainted it (red/black, not wheels) and now even the bucket. The old pic of the bucket made me think the...

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I only got a PT grapple bucket and a blank plate with it, so I spent the day fabricating a PT to Bobcat quick attach adapter to use all my attachments that don't bend. I had a real heavy 3 pt hitch to SSQA adapter that I cut up and welded the PT plate to. Will try it out tomorrow if I get time.

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Thanks, I put 1.5 hours on it and already bent the grapple fork trying to pickup a big stump. Oh well, doesn't look to hard to straighten. Over a year with the 1430 and never bent it. They seem busy as usual. I called about a month ago (wanted to look at the used one and a new one) and they...

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

I bought a new one after looking at the used one. They repainted it all up pretty nice. No offer was made to try it out, seemed like look at it and decide. Maybe I could have drove it around. It is stored inside and didn't seem easy to get out, and was packed in so tight I couldn't even...

    Add A Grapple?

This new format doesn't list your machines anymore. What is yours? If it is a 1430 or larger, I would get a blank PT plate and adapt it to a skid steer quick attach. Then you will have a vast choice of cheap implements that you can more easily resell when the time comes. The attachment pic...

    PT1850 Tramming Issue

The one area that may be confusing is the draft control. It is the only place I believe that the hyd controls interface with the tram. (maybe the park brake too). The variable pressure that drives the wheel motors also (when daft control is switched on) applies drive pressure to the loader...

    PT1850 Tramming Issue

It is not good that they don't proof read the manuals. My 1460 says to remove the floor to get to the hyd filter. Although I haven't removed the floor to look, I do see the hyd filter all the 14XX tractors normally have by the fuel tank. I think they meant the 2460 needs the floor removed.

    PT1850 Tramming Issue

First off, there are old versions with a cable controlled and new versions with pilot control. Either way I would run it around for 1/2 hour to heat it up and get rid of any air. Then see if it is better.

What did you do with your Power Trac today?

Yeah, you can't do without having extra pallets around when you have a Power Trac with forks. Moves everything and you can see the forks to slide them right into the fork pockets.

And as far as you worrying about the forks not having a guard. That is nothing compared to how bad the loader bucket is. As you raise the loader arms from ground level to full height, the bucket angle tips back and will dump the load off the back toward the operator IF YOU DON'T MANUALLY...

    PT 180

In my opinion all the PTs are light on their feet (at least from the 1430 down). My 180 never sinks in. I believe it is 1200lbs. That would be 300 lbs per tire (unloaded machine). Pretty much what is on a persons shoe as they walk. You should be able to use the tires off a 425 if you were...

    PT 180

I am 6'2" 210lbs and don't have a problem once I get on the 180. The worse part was getting my boots into the foot well without hitting the go-pedal (tram). The 180 has shallow foot wells which makes it a little easier. One thing I did that helped and made it more comfortable was making a...

    PT 180

I made my own fork attachment out of an old masons walk behind. It can lift until the rear end comes off the ground, which most likely happens when you turn the machine because it effectively gets shorter-causing the counterweight (engine) to get closer to the loade.

    PT 180

I have a 180, it was my first PT and love it. The mower or any powered attachment runs off the PTO circuit. A grapple would run off a 3rd function to the 2 function loader control. As purchased it would have up/down and curl/uncurl. The other machines have a 3rd valve that normally is needed...

    Planning a PT-425

I would make a lift boom utilizing the forks. It will end up being a little heavier but with the money you save I would look at a grapple bucket instead of just a plain bucket. Then you could move logs and brush without leaving the seat. All depends on how willing to compromise with the...

I believe everyone should do this to know how hot your hyd oil is.

Since we have a new PT180 owner on the site I would like to bring up a topic that all of us could benefit from. I have mentioned it before but I think it is important, so here it goes again. Who here thinks the parking brake on the Power Trac can be a little quirky to release? As you may know and for those that don't the parking brake consist of a cog wheel (like a gear on your bicycle chain, only big) and when you apply the parking brake, a pin moves between two teeth. The...

The Power Trac really helps when splitting wood, got the saw stuck, and carrying logs

On the gas engine machines (esp PT180), if your operating in slippery conditions or if you raise the front wheels off the ground with the bucket, does the rear axle still drive 100%? Or do you notice a drive reduction when one wheel slips or wheel(s) off ground? I hear the older models where...
