Thanks Sixdogs. But sometimes I go overboard. Years of learning from Dad and honing that skill rebuilding wrecked helicopters! Because you may never get a chance to redo your work. Redos are harder to fix than doing the job right the first time anyway!

Friday I installed a new Oil/Water Separator and made a wood frame I could move over the disc. 3-29-13 Air Oil Seperator with Regulator.jpg I put plastic over it to keep the pollen and dust falling down from the ridge vents.

Saturday afternoon I started painting. The white suit really did a good job protecting me, but I could not move around easy on the creeper.3-30-13 Painting on the Creeper.jpg The air hose was the only pain I had in painting. The siphon cup gun worked way better than expected. I had no problem spraying overhead. This gun has a small clear tube that goes from the cup vent hole up into the arch that holds the cup's lock mechanism. So no drips. However, there was a paint leak somewhere that had my rubber gloves covered in paint overspray. I did have some problems with the straight fitting off of the air hose with the disposable filter added. Next time I will install a hose swivel.3-30-13 Paint Gun and Me in White Suit.jpg

I had put my floor fan in the doorway and closed the door up to the fan and only had my side door open. This seemed to work well moving overspray out. I added the hardener to the paint and had no problems with it's use, along with the recommended reducer.

I had the tongue hanging from my loader out in the sun and it was hard to a lite touch at dark.3-30-13 Painted Tongue Hanging.jpg I started painting it at 4:30. So 3 hours went by. The paint instructions says wait 24 hours to work hard with it I had no problems with runs either. Only way I could get a run was to stop fanning the gun and spray in one spot..............which I didn't do.

I went ahead and used $15 of thinner to clean the gun. So I'll use it again then toss it. I also mixed too much paint and wasted about a quart, while about 1.5 quarts are still in the can.

Now that is a professional looking job. Great paint coverage and excellent prep work with nothing left to chance.
The prior owner wouldn't recognize it.

Sixdogs,
Thanks a bunch!:D
Hahaha. I had to laugh. I forgot:eek: tack rags and had to wipe it down with shop towels. I ran out of them and had to use paper towels out of my kitchen. The towels would leave little specs all over where rough spots are in the metal. So I just wiped down the top and painted.;)
I could not believe how that paint sprayed and didn't "stack up" and run. Great paint.

Thanks John. The secret of a neat shop is having 3 stalls just through a sliding side door full of stuff that litters a shop up.;) That and a neat junk pile out back! I hate working it tight spots, so my work area is always clutter free. I guess years of dealing with FFA inspectors trying to justify their jobs by writing up untidy hangars finally paid off!
Thanks for the nomination!

Wait until you drag it out, all clean and pretty, and in 30 minutes of tillage work has an inch of dirt on it. Always hurts just a little.

In the back of your shop, are those shiny things on the shelves trophies of some sort? Looks like it.

Sixdogs,
Over my right shoulder? Those are 1/4 thru 15/16" Combination wrenches hanging from the shelf.
Yeah, dirt can make you a little down on your work. But they are made to throw dirt!

I lowered the frame and removed a cinder block. 3-31-13 Rockshaft Up after Painting.jpg

Then I started installing the gangs. The front ones were easy, but the left rear gang mounts had the bolt hole's diameter increased because (I guess) of rounded carriage bolt shoulders. So, it was more fun fighting in those 2 bolts. The gang mounts are split and slide into each other. I installed the rear mount and lifted the gang bearing up, then had to use a C clamp to compress the two mount halves together. Then finger in the last bolt and lift the gang up enough to start a nut. Very tedious and delicate with numerous finger pinching points in the process.3-31-13 Disc Gang Installation.jpg

I had messed up with the new bolts being two different sizes and wound up buying 4 too many 3/4 inch bolts and I shorted myself four 5/8 inch bolts. So I only could install three gangs Sunday during the rain.

Tomorrow I will be going to look at used aircraft tires and wheels to buy. I will be going with wider wheels and tires to get more height in the tires.
hugs, Brandi

Just looked at the last email from the Amco Rep. again and it is all noteworthy, good news. It's below my name. I think my hp is 57 at the shaft. Engine hp is 65.
hugs, Brandi
Going to guess and say your disk weighs around 3800lbs and H.P. is 50-65

Brandi,
A tapered drift to align the holes along with your pump jack saves a lot of pinched fingers.
Nice paint job, if it were only blue:)

Nothing beats a piece of equipment that you save by rebuilding and repainting. I do it all the time and never lost a dime on my efforts. Everyone always wants to buy the projects after I'm done and are willing to pay up for it. New decals are a real plus if you can find them,

And as a side benefit, Brandi always wanted a red concrete floor in her shop. Super nice job of painting and restoration. It is going to be and impressive disc when you get it behind the tractor.
Question: it looks like each blade has a backer plate of some sort on it that fits tightly to each blade. I don't think I have ever seen that but it should be nearly impossible to break a blade on that beast.

Ron,
Yes, a drift would work, if there was room. After you have the rear bolt started with the bearing support in the hole in the rear bracket, the front bearing mount has to be swung up at an angle with the bearing support, as you raise it all up into place with the bolt started. Then the front half has a rear slot that slides under the head of the rear bolt.

The carriage bolt head rides up between the bearing and the mount. To see if the square shoulder of the bolt head is engaged in it's locking slot, you have to use an inspection mirror.

Blue? You too?:confused2: Brian (Mtn View Ranch) had his Mahindra 7520 painted blue before he bought it!:confused3:
