Daniel,

I sent you a PM. Thanks

Everyone else,

Here's the price and wire requirements.

600 MCM for $4.82 a foot.
350 MCM for $2.85 a foot.

I need to run two runs of the 600 with one run of the 350 in each of two three inch conduits for 11 feet for a total of 274.78

Plus all the other fittings for the conduit brings me to just over $500 with me doing all the labor except the final connections.

The electrician will do them inside the box and the electrical company will do them at the weatherhead. Going this route will save me $1,400 and add another day of labor to my schedule.

Two ways to look at it.

Make $1,400 in a day.

Look at three wires coming from the top of a power pole to the top of another pole behind my meter box, versus seeing three large gray conduits running down my power pole into the ground.

I'd rather not see the wire, but not that badly.

After wasting a bunch of time and money on bringing the wires into the box underground, common sence and a small wallet prevailed. The original plan was arial and the price differnce is 4 times more to go underground.

You've all see plenty of picx of holes being drilled, and even more pics of the hole in the ground, but how many have see a 17 foot pole being carried to the hole?

Setting the pipes was simple enough. I need two runs, so that means two pipes.

It's not as ugly as I'd feared, in fact it might be better looking then three pipes coming down hte power pole, then back up into the meter box.

My electrician drew up some ideas on making the suports from the pole. He said I need two of them, and they needed to be strong. He drew some plans, but they seemed to have an aweful lot of steel.

I bought some angle iron for this job, but when I got started on it, and measured my requirements, I realized I could just build an "F" type bracket.

I built two and anchored them into the pole with half inch by 4 inch galvanized lag bolts. To make it easier to install, I used my impact wrench.

As with all you do, looks professional, and probably will hold up better than if you had the power company do the work. When you mentioned bringing the pole to the hole, I was seeing it laying on your shoulders with the girlfriend leading the way, very cool alternative. My guess is you just pulled up, set it down, leveled and done.

Are you going to have 2 services of electric coming in to your place?

Eddie, can't tell from the pictures but do you have to anchor these polls with a guy wire?
