JD2320 VS. Kubota B2620

I'll weigh in here, I bought a JD 3720 last year, why? becuase in all the used equipment searches I did, there were 5 kubotas for every 1 john deere forsale. so I said to my self, does Kubota outsell john deere 5 to 1, no, it's that when people buy a JD they hold it longer and value it more, thus, it will hold it's value longer.

Well I'm probably going to be going Green. Went to the Kubota dealer Sat. I was told they had a B2620 in stock. They did not. I wanted to take a test drive....Salesman said we do not have one to do that on, even a model close to it. Price quote for the B2620, FEL with toothbar, MMM, and tiller was $22k out the door including tax(6%). The salesman tried to talk me out of the tiller because without it the price was closer to the Deere. He said they have a implement "loan" program. You can rent any implement for only $20 dollars a day. He said "that way I could save money on the tiller" I told him I want the tiller. He then started to tell me how I do not need the tiller...and how much better his service and dealer name was. I thanked him and left with a calender and a poor attitude towards Kubota. So I'm going to go back to the Deere dealer and see if I can work him down a little or at least get something more for the same price. I do not think the 3 range Hydro is that big of a deal and the drive over deck on the Deere was a huge plus. I'll let you know what I decide to do. I think JD will hold its value better and hopefully perform like it should. I'm a little rough on equipment and hopefully the Deere will take it. THANKS

I really like my Kubota B2620, but if I had had an experience like that, I would have probably gone with a Deere. I don't understand the pricing on these tractors. In my location, the Deere was about 10% higher in price than the Kubota. From various posts I've read on TBN, its the reverse in many other locations. To get a true comparison, you'll have to find another Kubota dealer. However, if you're happy with the Deere, just get it and don't second guess yourself.

PS. The Kubota has a drive over deck too.

I paid $21300 for a B2920 w/ fel, 60"mmm, and a back hoe. The Kubota dealer in our area is much easier to deal with then either one of the two JD dealers. I have not had any problems with the B2920. It has exceeded my expectations. I like the extra HP and the three speed ranges of the B2920. The back hoe is awesome.
Also, sooner or later we are all going to have to get over the buy American thing. Our government and corporate greed has made sure nothing is really made in America any more. And if it is , it won't be for long. Good luck and I am sure either choice would be a good one.

CJBOTA, if you got yours for that price including a hoe...then mine should have come in way underneath that. I got a quote from an internet Kubota dealer in Ohio. He said he could have a B2620 with MMM, Tiller, Box blade and Loader delivered to my door(probably not including tax was $18600. There is another Kubota dealer nearby so I may give him a look then if not go back to the Deere. I'll let ya know.

No... Kubota does literally outsell Deere by that huge of a margin.

There is no "if", I have the paperwork in front of me. I bought it late last fall and I didn't have any tax since it was for my business.

Now I am in the market for a Utility vehicle, I have been to the closest JD dealer twice and they aren't the least bit interested in selling me a gator. I think the gator would be a good choice but I will probably end up with something else because of the two JD dealers that are within 8 miles of my house and another one that is 20 miles away. They only want to sell to people who want green no matter what.

They quoted me an 850 gator for $13000. I was so shocked I could only say OK I'll let you know. They said they would have to bring one in from another store if I was seriously interested. Again, OK!

The I stopped at a Cub dealer down the road. They quoted me $9800 for a 31 HP, 47.7 ft/lbs Torque, liquid cooled Cub Volunteer that had a cargo bed that was 3.2 cubic feet bigger then the Gator. They encouraged me to take a test drive which was awesome and said , by the way we are offering 36 months at Zero interest. Also, the Cub has 2 years warranty vs 1 year for
the Gator.

I like the Gator but I will be danged if I will put up with an arrogant dealer treating me like crap. I still plan on looking at what Kubota offers and will probabaly look at the Kawasaki Mules, but right now this Cub looks pretty good to me.

I double checked my paperwork and found the price of $21295 also included the backhoe thumb option which was nearly $400. After a substantial downpayment I got 42 month financing at less then 1% interest. ( .58 to be exact) At the time I felt I got a very fair deal. My biggest headache was trying to figure out which model to buy.

I thought that was just common knowledge in the SCUT and CUT market anyway. Kubota has 50-60% of the market, Deere about 20%, New Holland about 10% and the rest fight over the remaining 10% or so.

To the original Poster. That initial price you were quoted is way high, probably $5000 to high, try a different dealer as you said you would. My friend got a B2920 with FEL, MMM and Landpride tiller for $17,200 last year. With the price increases since then, you should be looking at about the same price for the B2620. You also mention the speeds could be adjusted easily by pushing the pedal on the Deere you test drove. That is true, but what the extra range of the Kubota will give you is more power at a specific speed with the Medium range. If you have any substantial hills, you will be relegated to Low range with the Deere, and have a Low or Medium option with the Kubota.

Can you back that statement up with some cold hard facts please?

Your not going to find it published or on any offical website, but Kubota will openly say that according to the AEM they have over a 50% market share under 100Hp. Considering that they are strongest under 50Hp, its safe to assume that the actual percentage of small compacts is higher still. That leaves the remaining part of the market to Deere which is almost certinaly #2, New Holland which would probably be #3... then the remainder split up amoung the other 5-6 companies. I'd concure with the other poster that Deere is probably around 20%, New Holland around 10%, and the remainder for the other brands. The 6-1 Kubota-New Holland ratio would agree with our sales.

I wont deny they sell alot, From my experiences driving around and seeing things, if I had to pull a number out of my rear end I'd say JD & Kubota are about even with 35% each and all the other MFG's fight for the remaining 30%

Outselling doesnt mean anything in my book....Kia can say they sell 5x more cars the BMW & Mercedes combined in the USA, but that doesnt make a Kia better then a BMW or MB....

The price margin and quality between a Kia and BMW is quite different, not an apples/apples comparison. I hardly think Kia compares to Kubota. Kubota and Deere are both BMW's in my book, the Kubota BMW has a higher number than the Deere BMW in the case between the 2 tractors being compared, IMO.

I wasnt trying to call Kubota a "Kia" I was merely stating that numbers alone dont mean as much as some make em out to be...

Agreed, I'd say JD & Kubota are both "BMW's"....

Uack on the real topic...Ultimately buy whichever machine has a better dealer and takes care of you.

Wow this subject sure did go a long ways from asking questions about the two models into a Green vs Orange pissing match.

Here's my personal experience with the exact same situation as the OP.
I was **** bent on getting a Deere. I tested and tested the JD 2320. Did not like the location of the loader Joystick at all. My leg was always against it. I felt a little cramped on the tractor. The two speed tranny just sucked....period. I was still willing to pull the trigger on the Deere UNTIL I decided to drive the hour and a half east and just check out the Botas for the heck of it. Well did that throw my world in to a spin cycle. I tried out the Kubota B2320, B2620 and B7610. Decided to eliminate the B7610 immediately because it was being replaced by the B2x20 series. So it was down to the B2320 and B2620. Since there was only about a thousand dollars difference between the 23 HP and the 26 HP tractors I chose the B2620. The three speed tranny is HUGE! It is PERFECT. The cockpit is extremely spacious and well layed out. My leg never touches the loader joystick. My 60" MMM deck is also a drive-over deck like the Deere. The Kubota has a clutch on the left side that will immediately disengage the PTO if needed and I think that is a huge advantage in an emergency stop situation. The Bota was about $1500 cheaper overall so for me the price played almost no part in it. My Deere dealer (right here in town) never gave me a warm fuzzy whereas the Bota dealer (an hour and a half east) was and is awesome so far. The only advantage to the Deere is the fact that you can actually use the split brake pedals whereas the Kubota's can only be used if the cruise is engaged in my opinion and the positon control for the 3 pt hitch. I won't lie, I thought I had to have a Deere and would still like to have one someday IF i have enough land to need a much larger tractor. After my limited experiences to this point, I don't think anybody can beat the Kubota line of tractors in the sub 50 HP range. For me the above 50 HP lines become a little more blurred. I have absolutely NO regrets or second thoughts about my decision. My tractor is orange and my bedroom is still and will remain green and yellow. :p

Then where are you getting your information to back up your statements? Not trying to nit-pick so please don't get me wrong here, but without seeing any real objective data , then it is merely a subjective opinion.

Did not like the location of the loader Joystick at all. My leg was always against it. Troy

Just to be clear, I have no argument one way or the other on the original poster's question, I bought a JD 2520. I was willing to give bota a try but my local dealer did not have a 2630 or 3030 on the lot, and since I already liked the Deere, that made up my mind (although I'm still very curious about the 3030). Anyway, just wanted to address the above comment.....my joystick was always hitting my leg too, so I took a look at the linkage, and it could be adjusted to move the joystick more outboard. Just wanted to point that out for anyone who may be concerned with that issue.
