Have any of you been flushing out the gauge/hose assembly before you use it with fresh hydraulic fluid?
I didn't.

Spencer, I still have the guage and asked Mosey ( in the goodbye BH 246, Hello 7308 thread) to PM me with his address and I will ship it to him. Bill C

Boy,that gauge is making the rounds, has anyone tracked where it has been and what the different readings where? Once finished with its trip, a tally reporting the various findings might prove interesting..............seems like lots of variance with the settings on this tractor.

Things that make ya go hmmmmm.

I sent my address to Bill via PM. I'll post the results here when I get done. Thanks!

Bill, no hurry. I won't get a chance to use it for at least a week anyway. Plus, I want to do some more "pre-testing" before I make any adjustments (if I even do make any adjustments) so I can see what effects any adjustments have on the performance.

I got the gauge yesterday.

I did some testing of the FEL before hooking up the gauge. I tried to lift the front wheels off the ground with the bucket fully curled back and using only the lift arms and the front wheels stayed on the ground, but it did take the "squat" out of the tires, so it lifted the front end some. But, the lift arm cylinders were fully bottomed out. I was on a level concrete floor and had the tractor in neutral and the brakes were not locked. I tried it at just above idle and at 2600 RPM and it didn't make any difference. Next, I used the bucket cylinders and rolled the bucket down (dumped) and it easily lifted the front tires way up off the ground. I raised the bucket with the lift arms (so the front wheels were back on the ground) and left the bucket in the dump position, then lowed the lift arms again. With the tractor running at 2600 RPM, it would lift the front wheels off the ground a few inches, but would not bottom out the lift arm cylinders.

I haven't checked the pressure yet, but hope to get to it this weekend.

Spence,

I noticed that fluid is visible inside the gauge dial, it that the way it's supposed to be?

How do I go about flushing out the gauge and what is the purpose of doing that?

Also, is it best to only hook it up to the female quick coupler coming off of the tractor rather than putting it in line? If I understand correctly, then I don't need to put a load on the FEL if I don't have the gauge in line, just hook it up to the green circuit and move the control lever forward - is that right?

Here's a quick summary of the readings so far. As you can see, the factory settings vary a lot!

Yep, I went into this blind, that's why I don't have a 'before' measurement.

Danny, fluid is visible inside the gauge because it is a high-quality glycerin filled gauge. The glycerin prevents the needle from vibrating so you get a clearer reading. I use a gauge like this on my pressure-increasing-pump for my reverse osmosis water filter.

My TC30 with 7308 is supposed to be delivered tonight. I don't know if I'm going to have any issues or not, but I wonder if I can get on this list.

Danny, the fluid is supposed to be there just like Jerry said. It helps to prevent "flutter".

You don't have to flush out the gauge itself but you may want to flush out the hose. If you just hook up one just the one connector instead of hooking up both you probably won't have much or any fluid exchange. If you hook up both connections then fluid could flow through the hose and into your system. The hose in the gauge assembly could possibly have a little of all of our tractors fluids in it. Kind of like when you kiss someone, they say you are kissing everyone they ever kissed.

HAAAAAAAA! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I wouldn't want my tractor to get a FTD! (fluid transmitted disease)

OK, here are my numbers (added to the end of the list):

Who , Before , After

Spencer , 1775 , 1850
Mrwurm , ? , 2000
DanCT , 1750 , 1750
thcri , 1600 , 1850

MikePA , 1700 , 1825
Roto , 2150 , 2150
stumpman , 2000 , 2000
SteveInMD , 1675 , 1850
Mosey , 1800 , 1800

Before I even hooked up the gauge, I did some testing to see how much it would lift. I have 8 62lb weights, 9 55lb sandbags and 2 30lb weights. That's a total of 1050lbs (rounded down). I put all that weight in the bucket and had my 640lb finish mower hooked to the back for ballast. A picture is attached.

Did it lift it? (drumroll please),

Yes, it was able to lift the bucket to 66" high (to the bottom of the bucket). I tried to post a picture, but couldn't get it trimmed down to get below the 100k byte limit. I'll mess around with it some and see if I can get it.

Anyway, since the pressure is already at 1800lbs and it will lift 1050lbs, which is plenty for me, then I didn't adjust the valve.

Kevin, Send me PM with your address and I'll send the gauge to you next.

/ NH 7308 Loader Owners #138
Here's the picture of lifting 1050 lbs. The finish mower was barely enough ballast for that much weight. When I lowed it back down, I (unintentionally) jerked it when I stopped lowering it and the rear tires bounced off the gound a little.

The gauge will be on it's way to Kevin on Monday. He will send it back to Spencer unless someone else asks for it. Thanks a lot Spence!
