I have an X300 I bought in 2010 that has 750 hours on it. Still running just fine. No real issues other than belts and blades etc. As far as the K46 goes, I change the fluid (5/50 synthetic) in it every 100 hours and still functions like the day I bought it.

I think it would be hard on the drive head of my trimmer and the drive cable/shaft. And I agree that it will get full of wet grass and mud, plus it might make the end of the trimmer shaft heavier and be harder on ya to use for any length of time.

I pull the drive cable out every other year and wipe it down and grease it up good and I also grease the gear drive unit a tad. It doesn’t take that long and fairly easy to do. A lot of folks ignore the drive cable/shaft lubrication.

I just use mulching blades from JD and a mulching plug with my mower. I wait till the leaves and ground is bone dry. It works really good and it’s good for the soil, never noticed a difference go backwards. Whatever is left blows around all winter then I mulch again in the Spring.
