    Maple Syrup

It ran pretty good here today. Not a huge run, but at least a gallon per tap. It started earlier in the day than it has been, so that helps a lot. Got my cooker fired up for the first time. Boiled about 800 gallons of sap in 4.5 hours. Used about 50% of a cord of wood. Drew off about 9 gallons...

    Maple Syrup

I tend to agree, though them be fighting words on the syrup forum. I will say that I don't think which type of wood makes any difference. Personally I prefer softwood. It doesn't fill the firebox with coals and it burns hot and fast, which is what I want. Also, it's a good way to use that kind...

Been splitting a bunch of wood lately. A friend of mine is establishing a deer farm, so they had a bunch of trees removed from their 80 acres. I hired a local tree service with a knuckle boom truck to move 4 loads for me. They said their truck holds 4 cords, and for 3 of the 4 trips I was able...

ATV salt spreader on my CUT? Anyone done this?

I'd like to mount a small 12 volt broadcast spreader to the front of my little NH. I'm not worried about the mounting aspect, but I'm wondering if anyone's got experience with this type of spreader? Also, being that my tractor is quite a bit longer than an ATV, I'm wondering if the control will...

Ordered a Lamar equipment trailer yesterday

Good call on the deckover, Rye. Mine is nowhere near as nice as that one, but I love not having fenders to worry about. Makes it much more useful for moving logs. I also set mine up for processing firewood. I use the tractor to load logs on the trailer, buck them up there, slide/roll rounds to...

Been working on a job for a good friend. Took down about a dozen oaks of various sizes that were dead from oak wilt. Now we're bucking and splitting. Just like Sawyer Rob does it, we're loading logs onto the trailer, bucking and then rolling/scooting to the splitter. From there it's just a pivot...

    Actual cost of firewood

Here is my F250 loaded with a full cord of white oak. I measured it after I helped unload and stack it (sister and BIL) get special treatment), so I'm sure of the amount. I'm not sure if it's actually legally loaded, or slightly over the limit. My truck is a bit unique in that it grosses at...

Here's a shot of my MX putting some racks of evaporator wood out of the way. Come next spring I'll put them right in front of the syrup cooker. Each rack holds about 40% of a cord. Since this is softwood, my cooker will use about a rack per hour once it's rolling. Maybe a little less.

    Pictures of Your New Holland

Here's my '99 TC29D with my new three point splitter. Bought it almost two years ago with 850 hours. Got almost 200 more now. It's handier than a pocket on a shirt, and having it around saves me a ton of time because i don't have to swap implements as often.

How big of a pump can I run off a Kubota L3800.

Like I mentioned in my first post, I'm running a 21 GPM pump. Mine is a knockoff of the Prince pump. My splitter has a 36x5" cylinder with a 2" rod. New 3 point wood splitter: Wolfe Ridge Mfg

Well, after splitting wood by hand since I was a little guy I decided that it was finally time for a hydraulic splitter. Between heating and cooking maple syrup I burn about 18-20 cords/year, and I'm expecting that number to go up as my syrup project keeps growing. Since I burn that much...

I'm beginning the process of purchasing a wood splitter. I burn about 15-20 full cords of wood every year, and I'm hoping that number will go up. KUBOTA L3800 log trailer sizing

I agree with Gorgon about having too big of a log behind the winch being far preferable to having too large of a trailer. The log you can lower to the ground and it will slow down most of the time. On the topic of using one tractor to load and then pull a trailer, I moved about 9 cords this...

    Bought a mx4700 today

At long last, look what followed me home today!!! I know pictures are part of the rules, so here you go. Got to double the hours on the meter this afternoon (from 1 to 2). Plowed the 2" of snow we got off the driveway and packed down our trail through the woods. All I can say is "Wow" this...

    another thread about pallet forks

So, I'm sold on getting a set of ssqa pallet forks for my new mx4700. Now here's the dilemma: my dealer is offering me a good price on a locally made set. They are 48 inch, have a headache rack though it's a step through design for a skid steer. Only problem is they are 440lbs with a 5100lb lift...

    Logistics of small sawmill operation

That's a great thread on forestry forum. Have to agree with someone over there about the picture of your wife, mine looks at me the same way. When I bought mine, I really looked hard at the differences between the B-20 and the 1600. I found both used for within 2000 of the same price. In the...

Cutting Maple for fireplace mantle from a log ?

www.beammachine.com That'll help a lot for the price. A lot less than a alaska saw mill. Or find a guy locally with a band mill you could take one log to. Probably only charge you $15 or $20 and it would be perfect. Sawmilltrader.com has listings of guys with mills across the country.

new to diesel, tell me about stopping and starting.

Like I mentioned in another thread, I just bought a Kubota mx4700 hst. I've never owned a diesel before, honestly if I could have bought a gas 4x4 tractor, I wouldn't own one now, but that wasn't an option. I'm sure I'll love it of course, but it'll take some getting used to. So... A couple of...

    Bought a mx4700 today

I know I was cutting it close to the end of the year, but I managed to cut a check today for a new mx4700hst this afternoon. Dealer has to switch tires to ag, which apparently will take two weeks (i wanted the 13.6-28 instead of the 14.9-26s), but then it comes home. Very excited to get it...

Went to dealership today... might like the tractor, but not the dealer, what to do?

I went to drive a Kioti today. I've been pouring over the forums for weeks, thanks for all the great info. I was drawn by the Kiotis for the obvious reasons, great reputation for a steal, or so it would seem. I grow vegetables on a small area in Wisconsin, I will use the tractor for plowing...
