B2320, B2620, and B2920

That is correct Ductape, if you have a rear implement and a front mount snow blower, the rear implement would spin at 960

This seems silly to me. Any idea what the reason is? This would make it difficult to use a front blower and have a spreader with sand/salt on the rear at the same time.

SnowRidgeME,

I'm having to decide between the new B and the JD2320. I test drove the JD2320 at the dealer yesterday. The Kubota dealer didn't have a new B for me to test drive, although I did see the B2320 at the Farm Equipment Show in Toronto earlier this week, and test drove the B7510 at the dealer lot the week before last.

I didn't notice that you can't engage the mid pto, without also engaging the rear at 960 rpm on the new B. I don't understand some of the decisions Kubota has made with the new B. If I'm running the mower, and have my broadcast spreader hooked up, but don't want to spread anything at that time, I still have no choice but to run the rear PTO!

Does anyone know why they stuck with the live PTO instead of going with the independent PTO that everyone else, ie. JD, and Kubota on the 2630 and up, is using? Is the live PTO a stronger more reliable set up? Are there real advantages to this setup? If so, why doesn't Kubota use this setup on their premium models? I know that they use the B's for commercial applications, so reliability is probably their number one priority - at least I'm hoping it is, although its starting to look to me like they were just trying to save money!

I really like the operator platform of the new B, plus the three speed hydro. But the quirks, and lack of features on the B, versus the JD2320 (which is exactly the same price here in Canada) are really starting to pile up, and I'm starting to lean towards the green product.

with regards to the PTO, I suspect it is cost saving tactic my opinion and the sales person, unless there is a link/lever somewhere to separate the two, (it took us 3 guys a couple minutes to find out how to turn on/off the darn thing) it is correct to say that you'll be mowing and spreading lime at the same time! (insert smily face) I don't have a problem with that, and again this is what we found, the better approach is to refer to the manual.

now with regards to the JD2320 vs 2920, I tried the JD2320 (not to be confused with the B2320) last fall, I liked the engine, did not like the loudness of the 2520, size is good, a little bigger chassis than the 2920, wh/ is negative for me, hydraulics capacity is better on 2920, HP, a litter better specs with the FEL, but not much. It is somewhat splitting hairs, you'll be happy with either, but I'm choosing 2920.

SnowRidgeME,

I agree with you that I wouldn't be using the two at the same time, but I might leave the spreader on the 3pt. If the mmm is going, and the rear PTO is also going, the spreader will heat up, and any fertilizer etc. in the hopper will likely fuse. That means that I would have to disconnect the spreader and remove it. This is not the end of the world, but it sure is inconvenient. Maybe a quick hitch would help.

I will likely end up with a new B series regardless. Unless I am convinced that the JD2320 can handle mowing my hills at a reasonable rate of speed I will go with the Kubota despite its weaknesses.

Maybe I will just have to bite the bullet and jump to the B2630. Apart from the conveniences on the B2630 vs. the B2620, aren't the engines identicle? That being the case, shouldn't they drive exactly the same? What's the price difference between the two?

I had a lever to run mid PTO or rear PTO, or both together on my subcompact. If the mid and rear run together and there's no way to control each independently, then that would be another step backwards for me (I already had live independent PTO on the sub). I'm not taking steps backwards to move up to a bigger machine.

I have a strong feeling I'll be getting the B3030 the more I hear about these new B2x20's.

I'm not sure this is a step backwards, but certainly not a step forward. My old B7100 works the same way, and I suspect all the models in between are the same as well. My John Deere X495 mower lets me run the mid, rear or both PTO's independently. The difference is, however, that these Kubota's have a 2 speed rear PTO. I don't think the 2630/3030 do. Their rear PTO has only one speed. I have to disconnect the mower PTO to run my fertilizer spreader on the high speed, but this is not terribly inconvenient. It would be better if you could select the rear PTO at either speed completely independent of the mid PTO, but apparently this is not the case. I also suspect that the mower lift on these new B2X20 series is hooked to the 3 pt. hitch so the hitch goes up and down with the mower, another inconvenient issue. I think you can get an independent mower lift kit for the JD 2305, but not on a Kubota. I put a separate cylinder on my old 7100, and I suppose one could do the same on the newer tractors as well.

I totally agree. And it is running at 960. Where is this from? Does anything run at 960?

For my 2 acres a B2630 is too big. It is a few inches wider, tires are bigger, $1800 more, and wheelbase is 4 inches more. The mmm for the B20s is a drive-on, not with the B30s. I don't know if the engines for the 2630 and 2620 are the same. The first four digits of the model # are the same, D1105. But I was told the emissions were improved on these new B20s. Dealer did not have a B2620 to try. But I do know the 2920's engine was quieter than the B2630.

What do you mean by high speed, isn't the rear always at 540?

The rear PTO on my 7100 is rated at 540 and 856. The 940 speed might be a little high for some things. My Trac Vac ran off the 856 speed. I moved it to my JD X495 and had to change the pulleys to speed it up.
