My Garage/Shop Heater Install

As detailed as you are I am looking forward to the 30 and 90 day reports of heating and cost of operation.

You are right... the humidity plays havoc which I learned when I decided to leave a car in Olympia... in retrospect I didn't realize how unfriendly Western WA climate is to antique cars and shop
equipment...

I reached out to a collector and asked how he keeps his cars safe... he said simple... I have radiant heat in the garage for the classics... my first thought is that must cost an arm and a leg?

Guess it is the price to pay for abundant water. clean air and magnificent scenery...

Yes sir! I mentioned a sink and hot water install but to finish this project off, I will be blowing installation above... figuring about R38. Walls are 6in and also uninsulated. That task is not as easy/accessible so we will have to see if that is necessary. Thinking a well insulated ceiling will go a long ways.

And here a couple months ago I was thinking of building a two story stand alone shop for 6 figures. Looking at my 401K... good decision not to have plunged into that. I do want to retire to my shop sooner than later... it will just be a little smaller than I dreamed.

I was intently following the downslope shop... Construction costs can bankrupt these days.

I have 22x30 downslope with two levels that previous owner built... just wish it was 24x36 but isn't this always the case.

Started mixing concrete for the lower level floor but only got half done... nice place for my BX23

Upper Level has the vintage Reznor... plenty of heat but pilot uses measurable amount of gas

Early memories of propane.

In the '50's we had one of the first propane furnaces in the area.
Back then plumbers did the installations.
We had a submarine sized tank in the back yard to feed that furnace.

Now about once a day the furnace would start with a load 'boom', scary to say the least and one time the basement trap door actually lifted.

Eventually someone actually figured out the 'boom' cause and we could sleep peacefully.

No booms here! :D Actually happy to report that it runs pretty quiet. At least quieter than I was expecting.

In a nutshell... Gas pressure on inlet side would drop below 11 when burner kicked in so it wouldn't stay lit. Turned up the pressure at the tank regulator and it now stays on.

Ive seen this happen on the 100 gallon propane tanks when hooked onto generators. Problem went away with 250 gal plus tanks. Something to do with the way the propane vaporizes in the tank trying to feed large demand objects.

My next door neighbor had 20 pound tanks freeze up when running his generator
