    Good morning!!!!

Lightning (cloud to ground - close too), 31 degrees, heavy rain, hail/sleet. Lovely January Iowa weather... Nowhere for the rain to go, with this frozen ground. Expecting transition to snow tonight, about an inch "they" say. I think I'll do laundry and figure out the new Oregon sawchain...

    Good morning!!!!

SIL got me out to the new hunting property yesterday. 25 degrees, sunny and no wind. We cleared some proposed "food plot" areas and did some hinge cutting. The new/replacement Husq 440 did good. I dropped a couple big oaks, and they actually fell where I aimed 'em. Saw some turkey sign...

Those aftermarket piston/cyl kits are pretty decent and cheap enough. If the saw is unusable now, why not try it? Where are you able to buy av gas now? I've tried a few airports and they scoffed at me and sent me away... The SIL reports that he was able to get his Kubota running last night...

Things You Find In The Woods *POST YOUR PIX*

Yeah, I have a bunch of implements that escaped the WWII scrap drives. The other area has two cultivators embedding in trees also. Hopefully, this year I'll get to sorting through it all (some?); saving the cool stuff and scrapping the junk.

    Good morning!!!!

Tractor started right up (inside unheated barn), after the block heater was on for an hour. 6 degrees. We got 3" of snow overnight. No wind, so there were no drifts and it was nice to look at this morning. The big sliding door on the barn was frozen shut, after the last week of storming...

Merry Christmas everyone!!! -4 this morning, but not much wind. Saw a county grader/plow zoom by, so the road should be clear. Off to the grandkids to celebrate.

    Good morning!!!!

With our 50 mph winds and -15 degree temp, all I need is my finger (not even wet) to see where the cold is coming in. This 100 year old house still leaks a bit, even with insulation and new "good" windows.

    Good morning!!!!

50 mph winds (for the last 3 days) let up somewhat. We only got about 3" of snow, but BOY did it blow!!! Only 20 mph this morning, and temp up to -4. Power stayed on. Wood stove struggled to keep up. Merry Christmas to all. Stay safe, if you have/want to travel.

    Poulan 5020 issue

I went through this same issue with the SIL's last summer. Turns out it had low compression, scuffed piston - due to wrong/no oil (?) These are 40:1 saws. Bought a cylinder kit and it ran fine. Now in winter, won't start again. POS. Not worth fixing again.
  23. gstrom99

    Good morning!!!!

I went over and picked it up. It needs a fuel tank/handle, grab handle, starter housing and some screws. Probably $150 in parts. I'm not sure I feel like farting with this (the triggers are a pain and needs to be transferred over) and I'm thinking to just buy him a new one (TSC $359). I'd...

    Good morning!!!!

I got a text from the SIL. The (almost brand new) Husq 440 chainsaw early Christmas present went flying off his ATV, onto his frozen driveway and shattered into pieces. Arrgh! I had/have a bunch of crows, out in the cut corn. Also have a hen turkey out there chasing the crows around. I've seen some tracks in the snow that sure seemed larger than a pheasant. She came into the yard so I could get a decent pic. Good to finally see one here.

Thanks. I found the old, rusty plow blade on CL. Paid $100. It's 72", which looks big on my 855, and pretty heavy. Found the JD brackets online (for like $100). Had the rest of the material on hand. If I need to, I can take it apart, slice and cut 6" off each end, and weld the end pieces...

    Tractor work today

Yep, lots of nails in that old shed. After burning, I always use the stick mounted magnet to pull out the metal from the ashes and surrounding areas. With the huge amount of walnuts in that burn pile, the burn smoldered for two days.

I fixed the torn open roof on a converted corn crib this year. It's 24 x 24, and was about 1/4 open to the elements for probably 20 years, before I bought this place. Sill plates, rafters and wall studs were rotten. I don't have a bunch. It's ugly, but all my implements are now in a dry...

    Tractor work today

Well, I couldn't find the "What did you do with your tractor today" thread. I took some inspiration from Johnny Jet of the Barnwood Builders show. I took down my dilapidated chicken coop, and am moving it all to the burn pile.

About painting a steel sided building

The painter said the process should seal things. It's always been pretty dry anyway. I had Morton replace the 8 old skylights last year. Wow, what a difference. They were old, brittle, that old green color and pretty dang dark. While they were up there, they secured any nails (I did say this...

About painting a steel sided building

My 54 x 72 Morton pole barn was put up in the 60's and is white, with faded green trim/accents. I think I'm going to mow today. Maybe/hopefully the last of the year? I've only had this ZT mower a year, and am guilty of often doing the "tear up the lawn" turns. It's been a dry summer, so I haven't mowed much here. I'll have to experiment, and change my ways.
