Looking north towards the old shed. This will be the location of the new driveway. Have about 4" to 6" of what is supposed to be No. 2 gravel down as a base on geotextile ... the gravel is more like No. 1's and No. 2's .... which is fine. The driveway was excavated to a depth of 6" to 14" to remove the topsoil. The pile of asphalt from the old driveway appears in the upper left of the image. I will probably spread this on the new road leading to the driveway and get a dozer run over it to crush it up as base.

Looking due south from the new driveway towards where it forks - the left leg goes to the shed, the right leg goes up to the house. The B2910 is taking a rest from spreading the base gravel. BTW, spreading No. 1's and No. 2's with a tractor this small (and without R1 tires) ain't no fun - especially if the material doesn't contain alot of fines .... it has a tendency to shift all over the place and it's a pretty bumpy ride. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking NNW up towards the sold shed. The entire asphalt pile is visible. It's huge - probably 12' wide x 80' long x 5'+ high.

Looking NNW from the building pad up the approach. A semi has to make it down through there to deliver the building .... hope I made it wide enough. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is my one real problem area with the site ....... the mud pit. This area is the remnants of a gully that washed out from surface runoff. The topsoil is pretty thick around here and the area stays fairly wet ..... partly as result of the time of year it is and the fact that I didn't remove more trees on the south side of the pad. The drainage isn't real good here at the moment - alot of topsoil got built up on the road back to the rear of the property where the stump pile is. I'll need to cut a ditch beside the road to get better runoff. The current plan is to locate the building as far north on the pad as possible, and try to avoid this area as much as we can, excavate any topsoil from this are and repack it with clay obtained from grading the pad.

Looking due West, across the "mud pit" backs towards the house. Two piles of firewood from clearing the site are visible .... it's about 15% of what we took down .... the rest is piled up in a couple of places towards the rear of the property. The large boulder that JASTN70D removed is visible next to the left firewood pile.
