Great All-Around Tractor

I purchased this 2210 tractor to replace a JD 4100 compact utility tractor that I had owned for six years. I wanted a tractor with a little more power as I use it to not only to mow and till, but also to blow snow, which in Minnesota can be heavy at times. We've owned as many as seve acres, mowing up to 4+ acres, and have owned horses, using the loader to clean stalls and barns. I've used the tiller on tree rows and large community gardens, as well as planting our own 3-acre yard with grass after tilling and landscaping it myself. Our lawn looks better than those maintained by professional crews. I have a 10' sprayer that works great, as well as a spreader and trailer that attaches and makes hauling dirt/branches, etc, so easy. I've never looked back. I kept all the attachments from the 4100 model (52" snowblower, 52" rotary broom, 450 tiller), but did give up the loader as I don't have use for that anymore. The 2210 is smaller and lighter than the 4100 was, and therefore my wife and daughters aren't intimidated by it (they were intimidated by the 4100 and never did use it), yet the 2210 has more power, which is useful with snow-blowing. I honestly don't know if I need the extra horsepower for anything other than that.. The 4100 did everything I asked of it, and so does the 2210. These machines are as RELIABLE as they get. I've never needed to do anything with them other than routine maintenance, and I USE them, as I've said. I have a 450 tiller that is used in VERY hard earth and I have never had a problem. Even in wet clay soil the tractor will bog down sometimes, and then you have to back off a bit and start over, but that happens very rarely, and in terms of using the loader, snowblower and mid-mount mower, it is never an issue. The 2210 is also very versatile. It has plenty of attachments, as you can see, and it's built to handle all of them. The bottom line is that you'll have a hard time outgrowing this tractor. There is very little that a homeowner with 10 acres or less can't accomplish with this machine.

Our 4th John Deere

We purchased a 2210 to replace a JD540. We needed a little more weight to move boats and campers around our yard. The 540 had a front receiver hitch and we put one on the 2210. Very EZ to drive and with a 62 inch deck mowing is a snap. I would recommend getting high lift blades as it will blow grass further and keep deck cleaner. Forget deck mounted washer, just get out your pressure washer. It also came with a quick attach JD loader that is very EZ to take on and off and is built to do smaller jobs around the farmstead. I believe with regular maintenance this mower will last along time. We tried another brand and all I can say is nothing runs like a DEERE.

Pros: Very well built, all controls well laid out.
Cons: Wish you could remove 3 point arms but can't as they raise and lower deck also.

Good, But Not Great

I got this tractor to replace a Kubota. I had driven Kubotas for 25 years, but the last model just did not mow to my satisfaction. The John Deere provides a better finish cut, but I don't believe it is the same high quality overall as the Kubota. It is fairly comfortable to operate, but hard to work on. Even an oil change is a major ordeal. Reason: I am working in an old barn with a rock floor. There is no way to remove the deck, so this means there is not enough room for the oil catch basin. Too, the hanger brackets break regularly, and it is a hassle to replace them and rebalance the deck. Poor design? Poor material? I'm not sure, but every mowing season, I have had to replace at least one hanger bracket.

Pros: Priced right since I purchased it used with only 56 hours.
Cons: See above.

Good Sub-Compact

My father bought this little tractor in 2003 to finish because I was working for a Deere dealer at that time. He bought this 2210 with a 210 loader, 62C mower, ballast box snowblower & 3PTH 60" blade to replace a B7100 Kubota which was purchased in 1982 and had 1400HRS on it. He was quite impressed of the 2210. I purchase the 2210 from my father in 2007 and had 267 hrs. on it. I finish all my landscaping, did firewood (about 20 cords every year) and many other chores with it. I never had serious breakdown with it. It's a good size for a home owner. I hope John Deere still have the same quality in their new version of the 2210.

Pros: Good quality, well built, all attachment are quick attach.
Cons: No independent rear brakes.

2210 Bad PTO

After my PTO Shaft broke in half and I I inspected the shaft I noticed that it was welded together with a very minimal bead of weld. After I priced the replacement shaft it was almost apparent (In my opinion) that it meant not to last. If I buy another tractor it will be a Massey.

Pros: Nice looking tractor.
Cons: Too expensive to operate.

Nice Tractor For Under 10 Acres

I bought my 2003 JD 2210 used in 2008. It came with a brush cutter and loader. I bought it because I can tow it with my 6 cylinder minivan and it fits nicely on a 16' lowboy trailer. I have about 3 wooded acres. I use the loader attachment for moving brush piles and topsoil. It does a good job for both. I have also used it to cut brush on a 12 acre piece of property that I have and it performed well. It maneuvers well in tight places and is very user friendly. I don't like that the axle shaft and wheel lug are one piece because I have to replace a rear seal and it looks like I'm going to have to drop the whole trans axle assembly to do it. Other than that it's been a great little tractor.

Pros: Easy to operate and powerful for its size.
Cons: Wheel lug nut configuration makes seal replacement difficult.

Love My JD

This is the first new tractor I've owned and I have always found it well worth the money. The machine is incredibly reliable and a solid performer. I get as much use out of the loader as the mower and I'm quite happy with what it can do. Since owning the tractor I have built my own backhoe, which it powers effortlessly from the rear PTO and the 3-point, my own ballast box and just last year built my own fully aluminum cab with drop in hinge doors and hinged windows and the works! I've also just finished an alternator upgrade from the factory 20 amp to a more robust DELCO 70 amp unit. I've purchased a proper rear tiller. I've gone from a frontier rear snow blower to a proper JD front mounted unit. I've added a the usual tow behind spreader and sprayer. One of the first things I did was to purchase a 3-point Quick Connect hitch system which I now have all of my implements modified for. I've had to add my own rear Hydraulic quick connects as well as my own 12v accessory plug. These two items and the lack of some form of mechanical cruise control are the only real short falls on the machine.

Pros: Compact, reasonable price, most features you'd need for an estate unit.
Cons: Missing cruise, no 12v accessory plug, no rear hydraulics.

Green Acres

I have a 40 acre rock and tick farm in west-central Arkansas. My tractor is used primarily to haul a brush hog around and to relocate the innumerable boulders that dot our landscape. This little Johnny Deere has never failed to meet the task. It was purchased used from Spider Webb In Ft. Smith two years ago and I could not be happier with it.

Pros: Power, buck capacity, reliability etc.
Cons: It would be nice to have a backhoe.

2210 Compact John Deere

Bought this little tractor to take care of the property, 5 acres w/house & 30 X 50 metal out building. This tractor came with the 210 loader and a 62C mower deck. Have since purchased a weight box, front 54" Blade w/chains, and a 5 foot rear blade. Virtually use this tractor for everything. Only item I wish was different is the bucket on the deck is the large one, and even with a weight box it gets a little dicey when full of dirt or gravel if not on level. Love this tractor and it now has 750 hours and has caused me no problems!

Pros: Ease of changing attachments!
Cons: Loader bucket could be a little smaller?

JD 2210 Perfect for Small Hobby Farm

Purchased used (260 hrs.) from owner who babied it. Its easy life ended when I brought it home. I've used it for mowing, hauling firewood, clearing snow, digging a foundation for an outbuilding, dragging logs and various other jobs, some of which it was never intended to do. It has good power for its size and will go anywhere. Since it is lightweight (1400 lbs. w/o implements), caution is needed when hauling heavy loads on FEL or rear carrier, especially on slopes. I've had zero problems with it mechanically. The diesel gives all the power I need and is easy to maintain. The 62 inch mid-mount JD mower deck gives a good enough cut for backyard finish and makes quick work of big areas.

Pros: 4WD, high/low range, reliability, diesel.
Cons: Deck lift could be better designed.

My have had very good luck with my JD. I also have a friend with a similar one only a year newer. While brush hogging, he broke the rear PTO and subsequently found out it was aluminum casting which he has welded up. I have not had any problems with mine, and I use a 5' brush hog and he was using a 4' one. The 2210 has been very good so far and looking for many more years of service from it.

Pros: Good fuel millage.
Cons: Could have been a little larger maybe a 34 HP.

Good for Light Duty, All-Around Workhorse

Compact Utility Tractors

The JD compact utility tractors are a great way to do more than mow lawns without the cost of a full size agricultural tractor. The attachments are plentiful, generally easy to use, and get the small jobs around a residence with up to ten acres done. These tractors take quite a beating and still perform well.

Pros: Sturdiness and reliability.
Cons: Sometimes are outweighed by the job being done.

John Deere 2210

Lots of power, always starts after just a touch of the starter. Minor rust around the battery compartment and on the removable sides toward the bottom. I'm surprised about the rust because the tractor is always kept inside. The only thing I've other than doing routine maintenance, is the battery. But, now I have an intermittent vibration that I think is coming from the rear u-joint on the main drive shaft. Poor design on this shaft because you have to remove all kinds of parts to get at it. And, to make things worse you can't replace or rebuild the bad u-joint. Instead you have to buy the whole shaft which is around $700 plus the 5 hr labor to replace it. I read where others had to replace the main drive shaft as well with about the same hrs as mine has.

Pros: Great Yanmar engine, lots of power, on the fly FWD.
Cons: Could be designed better is some areas.

I Love My 2210

I bought my 2004 JD 2210 with around 500 hours on it last year to replace my 1977 Wheelhorse C160 and my JD 400 Industrial backhoe/loader. I owned the JD 400 for two years and was forced to sell it by the town. Anyway, I was just about done with the project I had obtained it for and the JD 2210 is just right for my current needs. It had a leaky power steering cylinder when I bought it, which turned out to be considerably worse than represented by the seller. A new cylinder was about $650, so I took it apart, even though JD claimed it was not a repairable part. I was able to fix it with a 50 cent o-ring and it's been fine for the past 1 1/2 years. Other than this, it has operated flawlessly. It came equipped with a 200 CX FEL,a 54" MMM and weight box. I have added a new 54" quick attach plow and a used 46" single stage snowthrower and also a 3 pt. hitch boom from Tractor supply, which comes in handy more often than I anticipated. I would like to upgrade to a 47" dual stage snowblower and am keeping my eye on craigslist for a deal on one. I'd also like to get a set of Artillian forks. The dealer where it was originally purchased had all the records and said it was religiously maintained. The dealer, G&H Equipement, No.Haven, CT, has been great, if you're in CT, I highly reccommend them.

Pros: Just the right size for my 1 acre + property.
Cons: I wish it had a light on the dash to show when in 4 wheel drive.

2210 PTO and Gearcase Service Bulletins

While snow blowing, the PTO shaft snapped at the rear housing. Went to the dealer I bought it from to order parts and was told that there were no replacement parts as installed and I needed to replace with a new gear case and updated PTO shaft. No break from the dealer on price. I called JD to see what the deal was. Out of Warranty, no help. In other words, tough luck. Got online and found a shaft (new style). Only difference was a spacer was done away with. I was able to order new bearings and seal with it and was back in operation in 2 days. My beef with JD is that I purchased a machine that had proven defects in design and they would not offer anything in the way of help. Wonder why the 2210 is not built anymore? Liked the rest of the machine, loader and mower. Not sure I'll buy another JD if customer service is run this way.

Bought this little tractor with a front end loader for small jobs around the house and it is good for that. Has a 62" mid mount mower that is nice and covers a lot of yard pretty fast. I mow about 3 acres including the yard and around a lake. It has never had to go to the shop for any type of repair, I service it myself. The only complaint that I have on this tractor is it is a pretty bumpy ride over ruff ground you will feel every bump with the low profile tires that come on the front end of this model. I plan to trade up to a 3000 series with the heavy loader and mid mount mower so I can do more work.

Pros: Very dependable, economical to operate.
Cons: Bumpy ride mowing.

Happy with 2210

I got my 2210 mostly to snowblow my driveway, which is about 1000' long and half of it uphill. I puff a little black smoke and have to use low range to snowblow up the hill but otherwise it has plenty of power for the usual tasks: moving earth, rocks, wood etc. in using it to grade my driveway I have appreciated its small size for maneuverability. The front end looks pretty tiny under a bucket full of gravel but so far no problems. I have heard people say the bucket is oversize but I'm not complaining. John Deere canned my dealership in their centralization move last year. Small dealerships were summarily stripped of their status, so I'm not happy the nearest dealer is now 50 miles away. On the other hand I have never had any need for servicing beyond the routine maintenance I've done myself so maybe my luck will hold. 200 hours is not a lot but i have used it hard. Its wheelbase is small so one has to very respectful of conditions that can lead to rolling.

Pros: Dependability, reliability, power on a small frame.
Cons: None.

John Deere 2210

I have had the 2210 for about 6 years. I use it to mow, landscape and push snow. I have the 210 loader and 62c mmm. Overall, it is a good tractor. I have moved a lot of dirt and gravel with it. It surprised me with how much power a small tractor can have. I have run a 52" tiller with it, and it worked great even in hard central IL clay. I mow about 4.5 acres. The only things that would make it better would be a suspension seat and an extra hydraulic remote. I would also like to see separate mid mount mower lift instead of being connected to the 3pt lift. All in all, a good tractor.

Pros: Powerful for the size.
Cons: Needs suspension seat.
