MX5100 Kubota
MX5100
Model Year: 2012

I am very pleased with the machine. I use it on hills and the stability is excellent. It has plenty of power in low or medium. The loader is strong and you have to have a counter-weight or the rear will lift up.

Pros: Strong loader and machine
Cons: Need counter-weight for heavy lifting

MX5100 Kubota
So Good So Far
Model Year: 2013

Since this was my first tractor, I have no others to compare it with. All I can say is that it does what I ask it to do and it starts easily every time. The only mishap was a front-end loader that got seriously out of line and a broken radiator (both my fault). I use mainly for brush hogging and light material moving.

Pros: Ease of use, reliability
Cons: Price, needs 4-by-4 light

It Gets The Job Done. Geared Model 4X4
Model Year: 2013

I mainly use my Kubota for brush hogging, box blading the driveway. and drilling post holes. It has good power for mowing. I also use it to pick up and haul logs out of the woods. So far the drivetrain and engine have been excellent. The bad. It has a pedal lock parking brake that is sketchy when applied. A hand lever type that John Deere has would be much better. The floorboard for the driver's station is poorly painted. Within the first 30 hours, the paint was chipping to the bare metal. When you lift the hood on an off-camber the hood mounts come out of place. A four-wheel drive indicator would be nice, and tilt steering too. Even with fluid in the rear tires, it won't pick up 1,700 pounds without picking up the rear end.

Pros: All around a decent tractor
Cons: Needs serious refinement

MX5100 Kubota
Clutch Life Is Very Limited
Model Year: 2013

I need to clarify, this was not a hydro-static model. The service tech called it a dry clutch. I have had this tractor for two years and two months. My first year was outstanding. My actual usage was 50+ hours after purchasing it in May of 2013. In October 2013, I had the tractor prepped for winter storage, (the service center where it was purchased had changed hands in October as well). The tractor was kept inside my barn. In 2014, we prepped the tractor, but had only used it for another 57 hours. Service was delayed, only because we were utilizing dealer specials on winter service, and it was done in February of 2015. In late March or early April, I found myself in the field with no power. After leaving the tractor for an hour or so, I was able to use the low gear to crawl to the edge where a service vehicle came out. Upon inspection, the tech told me he needed to adjust the clutch all the way out. This was with about 120 hours on it. At 133 hours, the tractor had no power and was no longer usable. At 133.7 hours, the clutch had to be replaced. Very disappointing! You can accuse me of poor handling of the clutch, I primarily used this tractor to brush hog, as well as run a tiller. I'm an organic farmer, not a row crop farmer. My tilling was limited to seven rows of 250 feet, seven feet wide. Not sure what would have caused this premature situation.

Pros: None
Cons: Good pulling power as long as the clutch lasts

Kubota MX 5100 Cracked Hydraulic Housing Twice
Model Year: 2009

There is a faulty part design in the MX 500 hydraulic housing that is made of cast iron and has broken twice in 324 hours, costing $1700 to fix. This part supports implements and the total weight, and should be made of steel. Kubota says it's caused by the top link getting in a bind going up hills with implements, but I live east of Dallas Texas in the flattest part of country there is, so if it breaks on me, it won't work for you.

Pros: Decent price for size
Cons: Part design flaw

Rear Differential Housing
Model Year: 2009

I've had mine for five years and just had the rear differential housing crack for second time. The last time, the cost of repair was $4,200 and was covered by my insurance on the tractor. This has to be design flaw. It should never break, much less twice in 300 hours. It is made of cast iron and should be steel. The only thing I have done with tractor is mow and pull a 5-foot disc and harrow.

Pros: Descent price for size
Cons: Part design flaw

MX 5100 Orange Machine HST Four Wheel Drive
Model Year: 2014

I upgraded from the L3200 series tractor to the MX 5100 and what a big difference. This tractor has endless horse power and when the turbo is kicked in it is working. It does consume more fuel than the L 3200, but the hydrostatic transmission isn't screaming like the L series. It is a very powerful tractor and well built. The main reason for the upgrade was more horsepower and I wanted to purchase the last years model before the new emissions on the 2015 and the price went up $4,000. As I put more hours on the tractor, I will update my review.

Pros: Well built and great horsepower
Cons: Fuel usage

Shepherd Acres

MX5100 Kubota
MX5100 HST
Model Year: 0

We recently moved out of the city onto 20 acres of rolling, wooded pasture about an hour from Dallas. My main need was mowing the 20 acres, drilling post holes and clearing brush. I started looking at used but the financing is poor and the prices are high. I looked at Chinese/Korean tractors like TYM and Kioti but the dealers come and go so support is so/so. Even on Chinese the price savings is not that much. So for owning something a lifetime it just wasn't worth the 2-3k savings to risk it. The old guys said to go Green or Orange so I met the local Kubota dealer and made a deal with him. Deen Implement is a long standing Kubota dealer with great service. I started looking at the L 3800 and 4600 units. He explained that the 5100 had much nicer features and was only a grand more than the 4600. I am glad I paid the extra money for the 5100. You can rarely have too much tractor. I like the larger tires, turbocharger, bigger loader and the sliding lower 3pt arms. I wish I had gotten the 7-8ft finish mower I think I have the power to pull it. the 6ft mower takes a long time to do the acreage. I have used the 4wd to push up some trees and brush piles. I feel like I have plenty of weight and power. I would not have been nearly as satisfied with the 3800 or 4600 tractors. I went ahead and bought sooner than I was ready to because the tier four units were coming out. They cost 10-15% more and had the regen, DPF etc that I did not want any part of. It will eat some fuel when working and the radiator screen requires cleaning every few hours when mowing which surprises me, I would think they would engineer a tractor to do a days works without shutting down for maintenance. Kubota is solid so far.

Pros: Power, reliability, value dealer support
Cons: Eats the fuel with the turbo spooling, requires frequent radiator cleaining when mowing in the summe

MX5100 Kubota
Great tractor except for problem disconnecting stabilizer arms from bushogg
Model Year: 2013

I took delivery of my Kubota Mx5100 in December 2013. I didn't begin using it until the spring of 2014. Everything about this tractor was great until time to disconnect the bushogg. The large pins that connect the main stabilizer arms appear to be "frozen." I've used grease, a large hammer and as much strength as I can muster. The pins will move only so far. No one has been able to provide a solution other than grease and force. I cannot use the tractor now for all of the other tasks it was bought for.

Pros: Well designed for owner maintnance and easy use
Cons: Stabilizer arms very difficult to disconnect from attachment

MX5100 Kubota
Kubota MX5100
Model Year: 2010

This is a good tractor that is quality built. However it is a big fuel consumer. You sacrifice fuel economy to get the higher horsepower with the turbo. It is also a light weight tractor and this comes into play when lifting anything heavy. For a tractor of this price range it is missing some key features. One is indicators for Parking Brake and Four Wheel drive. My 40 year old John Deere 2240 even has a parking break indicator/warning. The tractor handles well and with a FEL provides a good deal of utility.

Pros: Good power and operating features
Cons: Consumes fuel and is light weight for a 50 HP tracto

MX5100 Kubota
Good all around small tractor
Model Year: 0

So far it has been a good machine. I opted for the gear transmission. It has an FEL that you defiantly need counter weight when doing dirt work, even with the rear ties loaded. It is a little on the fuel hungry side. When working the machine hard it will b urn about a gallon per hour. Over all I'm happy with the machine.

Pros: Great work horse
Cons: Lite in the backend

MX5100 Kubota
Kubota MX5100
Model Year: 2012

Strong running tractor with front end loader and backhoe. Guzzles the fuel! My only other complaint is the light duty 3 point link adjustment bars. These bars have holes to adjust the width of the 3-point attachments. They bend easily and I had to straighten them a couple of times. Easily bent with a sledge hammer to straighten. These should be more heavily built. Overall a great machine.

Pros: Lots of power with front loader and hoe. Hydro-stat transmission.
Cons: Drinks the fuel! Poorly designed link arms on the 3-point hitch.

MX5100 Kubota
Last of the Good Ones MX5100 HST
Model Year: 2014

Overall, a very solid tractor. Had the tires filled with juice and went to work. Tilled, box bladed and now mowing with a 6' King Kutter. Tractor is powered and smooth. Moved a lot of gravel with the bucket and it handled it with ease. Never felt too small or overwhelmed. Love the three point extensions for hooking up. R-4 tires are big but help in the mud to not sink so fast. A little flotation is good. No exhaust crap so it indeed the last good one. Also have a L4400 and this MX is much more tractor. For a little money I would not look at a L4400 or 4600 or what ever they are. Everything is better on the MX. Worth the extra $$.

Pros: 3 point extensions.
Cons: No rear lights or holes to add.

MX5100 Kubota
My Kubota
Model Year: 2012

As a new acreage owner, I searched all the local dealerships for a tractor to help build a new acreage. I started out looking at 30+ hp units, and priced out every mfg. My search led me to a choice between a New Holland 35hp model, and the Kubota MX5100 HST, which I bought. The dealer was prepared to put the package together for under 50k Cdn, including a LA844 FEL, BH92 Backhoe, Land Pride 72" rough cut mower, 72" tiller, and a 84" box blade. All of this and 60 mos no interest financing. Although the dealership has not been very supportive, I am very pleased with my choice of equipment. Thus far, I have 290 hours in the seat, with 130 hours on the backhoe, trenching in 2100 feet of water line around the perimeter of my 7.5 acre plot. I have planted 800+ trees in the shelter belt, tilled the 50x50 foot garden area, and mowed the place a dozen times. Living in Alberta, we get more than our fair share of winter, so I spend a lot of time moving snow. My only regret: not opting for a full heated cab. Maybe I can add that in later as funds allow. The only issues I've encountered are: 3-pt. stabilizer arms bending, and a problem with the crankcase vent freezing off and over pressuring the crankcase enough to spit the dipstick out into a snow bank (found it). Shortly after that incident, I discovered that my oil level was rising, due to excess fuel in the crankcase, (still under investigation). Overall, I have found the MX5100 to be a well built, sufficiently powered tractor, for the small acreage owner. I have tried numerous times to push it to the limit of its power, but as yet, it hasn't failed to perform even once. I do admit, though, that I rarely run the engine past 2K rpm on any job, and just let Kubota do the hard work! So far, that's my story. Happy tractoring, Docone

Pros: Ease of operation, plenty of power.
Cons: No cab.

MX5100 Kubota
My First
Model Year: 2012

As a newbie, building an acreage, the MX5100 was a good choice. I shopped all the ag dealers in my area, and it came down to a coin toss between NH and Kubota. Dollar for dollar, the Kubota beats all. I got the LA844 loader, BH92 backhoe, 72" m rough cut, 72" tiller, and 84" box blade (all Land Pride). This tractor has more than exceeded my expectations. I trenched in more than 2100 ft of waterline for my shelter belt trees, to an average depth of over 8-ft., in just over 130 hours. I mow 7 acres 3 or 4 times each season, and am now building 600-ft. of road on the property. This spring we put in a half an acre of garden, and next project will be a 2 ponds and creek between them at either end of the property. Being in Alberta, we get plenty of winter, and moving snow can take all day, or sometimes all weekend. My only regret, not buying a Cab! My bad!

Pros: Power, and ease of operation.
Cons: I didn't opt for a cab.

MX5100 Kubota
Very Unfit for a Long Day of Work
Model Year: 0

I work on a golf course, and this tractor is what I use every day, all day to mow the rough, pulling an articulating mowing deck. I can't say much about reliability and value because I am only an operator, but I can say this is the most uncomfortable piece of equipment I have ever sat on. Besides forward and back, the seat is non-adjustable, very hard, raised up in the center, and is positioned in a forward-slanting angle so you constantly have to hold yourself up with your legs. The seat combined with the awkward control layout (gas/reverse pedal, steering wheel etc.) has a very unnatural feel and leaves me feeling like my legs and butt are going to fall off by the end of the day ( I'm only 20 and perfectly fit, so that's saying something). The power is not spectacular, but gets the job done. Bogs down pretty fast when cutting even slightly thick grass and it can't climb a hill in high range. Overall, it is a decent light duty tractor, but if you are planning on spending any considerable about of time using it, go ahead and swing by Wallgreens to pick up a tube of Icyhot. You'll need it to get rid of muscle stiffness.

Pros: Gets the job done.
Cons: Very uncomfortable, major diesel fuel hog.

MX5100 Kubota
Worse Tractor I Have Ever Owned
Model Year: 2013

I was very excited about purchasing a new tractor. The tractor I chose was a Kubota MX5100 with a front loader. The purchase price was $27,400.00 and I purchased it 8-2-13. I really did not get a chance to use the front loader until this spring. The lifting capacity is suppose to be 2000 pounds. The hydraulics have a hard time lifting the bucket with it just filled with dirt. I couldn't even pick up a fallen tree. When attempting to pick up a heavy load, it wants to lean to one side and I am afraid it will fall over. I have brought it in numerous times to have them figure it out but they still can not get it to work right. My old 1985 Ford tractor had more lifting power than this one. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in the performance and would never recommend for anyone to purchase a MX5100. I have less than 60 hours on it and the clutch is almost out. I have been driving tractors for 25 years and never had the problems I am having with this one.

Pros: 4 wheel drive.
Cons: Very little lifting power.

MX5100 Kubota
Upgraded to Kubota MX5100
Model Year: 2013

I owned a Kubota L3000 DT for 12 years and just purchased the MX5100 because I needed more power and I liked the additional features. Some of my land here in Vermont is fairly hilly and the MX5100 feels much more stable due to the larger footprint. I am extremely pleased so far, it is a totally different experience after having used the much smaller L3000 for years. I had considered the MX4700 but for the small difference in cost and additional features I am glad that I went with the 5100.

Pros: Build quality, power, great value for the money.
Cons: Fuel consumption as compared to previous tractor (L3000).

MX5100 Kubota
Nice Tractor for Small Tasks
Model Year: 2013

Bought this to compliment my 7040. Needed tractor to operate overseeder, gyro mower and sprayer. 7040 gearing is wrong for these tasks. l/4 = too slow, h/1 = too fast. This was largest hp that Kubota had with HST. In high gear it has no power w/the HST pressed to the floor. Can't climb the slightest hill on the road. I'm told that HST takes a lot of HP and causes this. Had to tighten up a bunch of bolts on it during 1st few hours.

Pros: Good and versatile.
Cons: Weak on high speed power.
