Low Hour Failures / Light Duty Use

Before the tractor had 500 hours, I had to replace both axle seals, replace a radiator and shroud due to a plastic fan that fatigued, cracked and then proceeded to destroy the radiator and shroud. It also had 3 years of life out of a battery. Then both front tires started dry rotting and splitting at 3 years. The cab door hinges elongated and the cab corner protectors that sit behind the loader frame fell off. Also, since new, it has had an issue where it loses power (hydraulic and electric) while running the snow blower. They tightened the belts and looked for electrical gremlins, but it seems to be very intermittent and only when its below freezing and under a load.

Pros: Comfortable, cuts nice and looks good
Cons: Fan fatigue, axle hub seal failures

John Deere 3320 TLB, One Very Happy Owner!

I very carefully researched each feature on the John Deere 2000 and 3000 series tractors. I chose a JD3320 TLB open station with hydro, 485 backhoe/18" HD bucket/thumb, 300CX loader, HD 61"bucket, 3rd function hydraulics, Power Beyond, large R4 Galaxie tires, front quick-attach forks, JD655 commercial rototiller, easy quick attach 72"ride over 7-Iron belly mower, mid PTO, 3rd function hydraulics, HD Alternator, Deluxe Brush Guard. The tractor is very dependable, only sips fuel, powerful front loader with quick hydraulics that takes a big bite out of gravel/clay/rock (can't bite off more than it can fill/lift so far). Backhoe is very powerful for size and has great reach (dug 170-ft. ditch 3-ft. deep in hard clay and rock. Glad I had the HD bucket, teeth were real tough and didn't bend or break, also digs out 5-10-inch trees/stumps at about 10 min/tree). Mowing is much better without the front loader and backhoe attached. I mow my clinic grounds after trimming all trees to the height of the tractor. Mower doesn't do as good of a job as my John Deere zero turn did and does not do it as fast, but does a good job and mows through waist high grass in my field at home with ease. I am also able to drive 4 miles to my clinic to mow rather than having to haul on a trailer. Front forks work great and have been very useful at taking large loads of trees/branches/stumps to the back of my property. 655 Rototiller is a beast through rocky soil and does short work of my huge 100x 75 ft. garden/levels the garden well. I have added a HD box blade 60" to help clean up my backhoe mess, an air seat suspension that makes a good and worthwhile difference in ride quality (even though I liked the spring seat too) and helps with lateral forces when mowing my field, filled the rear tires with Rim Guard for added weight and stability/traction, and a vertical exhaust (for letting the exhaust rise above my head and off to the side/as well as for good looks.

Pros: Very dependable, a lot of power and lift ability for compact size, good on fuel, good visibility, easy to put on and take off attachments/mower/loader/backhoe, 485 backhoe is a beast, outstanding local John Deere service/sales at Larsen's Farm and Garden.
Cons: Narrow for power, need wheel weights or filled tires to improve stability on hills and improve traction when using dirt implements.

Relatively Decent Machine

Owners with gripes seem to have tractors that are pre-2010 models. Perhaps JD corrected some of the faults of the earlier machines. The Yanmar diesel seems to be as advertised---bullet proof. It starts every time even in the 10-20 below temps of 2013-14 winter and runs strong. Gauge of FEL steel is 'chincy' and I don't anticipate it having a long life. Shift lever slips out of gear on occasion, but never considered that it was a tranny problem. The warehouse (R4?) Tires are poor performers in snow, under wet conditions and on grades. Pain in the to hook up 60" rear finish mower due to cramped rear PTO area although 3-pt. features (adjust-ability) makes attaching other implements a breeze. Excellent fuel economy...but that's the kind of high quality for which Jap products are famous. The cab feature would have been a welcome feature except for the increased cost. Yes, it does tend to get 'stuck' but that has more to do with tires than anything else. JD could have done a better job of designing headlights (beamed too low and not adjustable) and FEL control lever that I always activate (drop) by hitting it with my knee when turning to look over left shoulder. Lots o' sod peeled up when mowing. Stability can be 'dicey' if not careful. Front hydraulics are mega-strong.

Pros: Engine, overall dependability, 4 years almost trouble free, fuel economy.
Cons: Turf' tires, bucket control lever and headlights, stability.

JD3320

Overall I am happy with my 3320. There are things I would do differently if I were to buy another tractor. But I'm sure everyone feels this way. It has good power for the size of the tractor. Is excellent on fuel use, even when worked really hard. Compact footprint gets you in some places others can't. I would recommend this tractor to any one.

Pros: Easy to operate, great visibility, easy on fuel, good power.
Cons: Little light, need ballast for FEL work.

JD3320

An excellent tractor in most ways. I have had some small problems on several occasions. This is an e-hydro and there are too many err messages. Had to replace the hydro sensor and two starter switches. Bracket broke on the front three point because it had a terrible weld job. That was a $330. expense. The tractor starts great, even in zero degree weather and does work like a big tractor. I would buy another. I bought it new and the first problem started when it was three years old. All around good machine.

Pros: Starting and dependability.
Cons: Small problems.

It Has Been Good to Me

Mine is a hydro. I use it year round---plow snow (power angle front blade), maintain dirt road (box blade), run hydraulic split off the three point with the remote off the back, PTO chipper, adapted forklift forks to fit the quick attach on the front, 300CX loader and ballast box. The quick attach on the front and rear works real slick. The only problem I have had is with putting the front in the "float" position when I plow snow, that never has worked right. I should have used blue Locktite on the front wheel mounting bolts when it was new but that is hindsight now.

Pros: Easy to operate, versatile, 36 month interest free plan from JD, I prefer the foot controls on JD to the Kubota.
Cons: Can really fault anything, but of course it would have been nice if it was less expensive.

JD 3320 - Nice Overall Tractor

For it's size, the tractor does pretty well. There have been times that I wish I would have bought a 4x20 series, but in the woods/tight quarters, the 3320 does well. The loader doesn't always have the lift capacity I need, and the tractor as a whole is lighter than I'd like (making it difficult to move dirt, etc. around), but at the same time, the lighter weight keeps from rutting up my trails/yard. The hydro drive is so nice for doing loader work.

Pros: Maneuverability and hydro.
Cons: Loader capacity and lighter tractor weight.

John Deere 3320

The 3320 was bought to replace our old 955. My only gripe is the electronics which sometimes malfunction and need to be re-set at the dealer. The 3320, in my opinion is not as user friendly as the 955 in particular the restriction when looking to check the rear implements.

Pros: Better lift capacity.
Cons: Not user friendly.

Great Compact Tractor

This is a great little tractor. I don't use it often and can hardly justify owning it, but when I need it, I need it. Never fails to start and perform as any JD product should.

Pros: Easy handling, simple controls, power reverser.
Cons: None.

Green
Model Year: 2011

Great tractor, I bought the tractor mostly for snowplowing, equipped with R4 tires it has great traction. I have a Curtis 5' plow which mounts on the loader along with a 6' back blade on the rear.

Pros: Great comfort cab.
Cons: None.

JD---Overblown Advertising; Poor Manufacturing

This machine has had far too many small, nuisance problems of various sorts to be considered a quality tractor. I hesitate to think what I'll find as the unit ages and experiences some heavy usage. Only redeeming thing is the local dealer is capable and always seems willing to fix my problem, or try to fix it (still don't have a workable fuel gauge).

Pros: Nice sounding engine; good JD service network.
Cons: Poor attention to manufacturing detail.

Excellent Choice

Bought my 3320 on a zero interest program at a fair price. Primary use of my 3320 is all of the listing below and then some! It's a motorized wheel barrow (wife uses it for her stuff). It's a great garden tractor: single bottom plow, disk, hiller, etc. If I cut firewood into short 18" lengths, I load the bucket with them. If I cut 8' x 12" logs, I use my pallet forks to haul with. It'll work as a skidder, dragging a 16' x 18" butt-cut log. Even with 4-wheel drive, there's been places that was too soft to back out of, so I use the bucket to assist; drop it down in full open, engage the ground, then roll it back while keeping downward pressure and some reverse drive. A couple of those little push actions has always gotten me back on solid ground. Wish I had gotten regular farm tires instead of the turf that came on it. Bush hogs 11 acre hay field with a 5' cutter. Takes a while, but I've got plenty of time. Pallet forks are great for lifting my other mowing units when I need to remove blades. Thrifty on fuel.

Pros: All of the above.
Cons: There's times when I wish I had a hydro connection on the rear end, other than the front-end loader system.

JD 3320 Review: Wished I Had a JD 3720 but the 3320 Does Most of What I Want

I bought my 3320 hydro used, so took it as is. I wish it had a few more horsepower and a little more lift on the "X" FEL, but I think it's doing everything a 3320 is suppose to do. I'm pretty hard on in it and it has been great, one tail light bulb replaced in 350 hrs. Other than oil changes etc. The big thing that helped it was reversing all 4 tires and liquid filling the rear tires, I can't believe how much widening the tires out and adding weight improved the stability. The extra weight slowed the top shuttle speed down just a little, it's now about 17 mph on flat surface and can go down to 11 mph on a steep hill, but I rarely use it on the open road so don't really care. It's a great tractor and I would probably go with a 3720 if I had a choice, but the 3320 has done 98% of what I've wanted out of it. Also gets great fuel economy.

Pros: Reliability, fuel economy, features (the Cadillac of tractors).
Cons: Could use a little more horsepower, but is doing what a 3320 should.

I bought this tractor with only 35 hours on it. I have abused it at times and it just does the job.

Pros: Tough. Fuel efficient.
Cons: No sunscreen.

Have had to replace diesel fuel pump 3 times in four years. Dealer can't explain why.

Pros: Small, powerful, easy to use.
Cons: Fuel pump issues.

If you are looking for a CUT, this is it! Buy used, low hours, it will do EVERY think you ask of it and you can take your savings and apply it to the big tractor you need for hay and other large tasks. I use this tractor for spading, FEL work, box grading, post hole digging, wood chipping, fork lifting and towing! It's easy to drive and fun to work in! In short, it's awesome!

Pros: Everything about it!
Cons: Some owners don't appreciate its uses and give it lower than 5 stars!

I used to think John Deere made reliable equipment. I know people who have had good experience with them. I don't know if I just got unlucky, or their quality has gone downhill, but I could not recommend their compact utility tractors based on the one I purchased. It started out working well, but then things just started breaking. First the 485 backhoe I purchased started breaking the adapters for the bucket teeth. The first one broke after 40 hours on it. By 80 hours all the tooth adapters were gone, and this was after having one replaced at the dealer for $160. Their weld later broke, so it was a lousy job from them. I had read that some people had the tooth adapters replaced under warranty, but for the lousy 40 hours I got from my first one, they called it a wear part. I also noticed that things started to loosen on the backhoe. First a retaining pin for the bucket fell out, so I tightened all the bolts holding them in. They have not come loose since, so John Deere did a poor job on the line, or their torque specs are off. Then I noticed that the 3/4" bolts holding the backhoe frame together came loose. After tightening these twice, I gave up and replaced them with lockwashers and locknuts. Now this stays together at least. Then the dipperstick hydraulic cylinder started leaking because the weld on the mount was bad and the slag that was in the pinhole finally came out. The latest on the backhoe was a burst pressure hose after 120 hours on it. They called this a wear part too. The tractor just recently proved it had problems too. After 230 hours, I started hearing what sounded like a rubbing noise from the fan. I was confused until I finally found that the 16 bolts that tie the steel plates holding the front axle to the rest of the tractor had either come loose or broken, and the tractor was basically flexing the engine fan into the radiator shroud. I use the loader a lot, so I figure that the pressure of the loader caused the bolts to loosen. Since it happened after 230 hours, I have to think that the front end design is not adequate. Overall, I'm not very pleased with my $34,000 tractor. John Deere has not been very helpful when I talk to them. Under the warranty, everything seems to be a wear part. Never mind that the tractor has been in my possession for less than six months, and I only use it on weekends. You'd think that they would cover premature wear, but you'd be wrong.

Pros: Power and usability.
Cons: Quality and reliability.

2012 John Deere 3320

I bought my John Deere 3320 in July of 2012. I have the e-hydro model with a cab and 3rd SCV. As of 4-18-2013 I have around 140 hours on the tractor. The tractor has had only a couple issues which the dealer and John Deere resolved to my satisfaction in a timely fashion. Right from the start my air conditioning didn't work, no cold air would blow out. That problem was fixed without me having to bring my tractor anywhere. Around 100 hours there was an issue with a loss of torque and when I would step on the accelerator the tractor would barely move at times. My load match also had issues. That problem turned out to be that they didn't program the computer correctly for load match and automotive cruise control features that were added. The settings didn't seem to hold either. About the same time my fuel gauge went out. All 3 of these problems were solved after they replaced the computer. I must say my dealer worked hard to resolve the issue. They sent mechanics out to my place which is an hour drive to make repairs. When they determined that they needed to get the tractor in their shop they picked up my tractor and they returned it to me. That's what I call good service. As far as the tractor, I think the only negative is it feels tippy side to side. I loaded the rear tires with rim guard and it helped this problem quite a bit, but it's still a little to tippy for my taste. The good points are this tractor will turn on a dime. It maneuvers in the tightest of situations. The loader seems to have good power and the tractor itself seems to have plenty of power for a 32HP (25 HP PTO). The load match feature is very nice. It makes the tractor feel like it has more power than it really does. It powers by 5' brush hog very well. It also powers my 5' tiller with no problems. I have a 6'6" 2 stage 3 point snow blower and it powers it decent. I just have to drive a bit slow. Snow blowers are power hungry anyway and will eat up the power from any size tractor. The e-hydro transmission is awesome! I would never think of buying a manual transmission on any tractor. The cruise control, speed match, motion match, and load match are nice features that highly compliment the automatic transmission to make the tractor much more user friendly. I'm in NW Wisconsin and it's cold and snowy here. The tractor has started well in the cold and has plowed snow pretty well. I have a hydraulic v-plow blade mounted on my loader, a 6'6" 3 point 2 stage snow blower on the rear and I have installed 2 link v-bar ladder chains on the front tires. There is not enough room to mount chains on the rear tires without adding expensive tire spacers. I see this as a lack of engineering on John Deere's part. Who would make a tractor that can not have chains on the rear tires? The cab is nice. It seals out dust very well. The seat is comfortable and there is good leg room. The windows are large and give you good views without blind spots. The controls are laid out pretty well. The heater and air conditioner work well and a stereo is an added bonus. It makes work feel like fun! I use my tractor to maintain my 40 acres and to do a little at our family cabin on 50 acres. I use it to gather firewood and split it my my 3 point log splitter. I have made some small deer plots and garden space. I use it for plenty of snow removal. It maintains my road and driveway. I also use it to clear some land and for landscaping work. So far the tractor has worked well for everything I have tried.

Pros: Great promotions for buying, highly maneuverable in tight spots, poweful for its size, comfortable cab, e-hydro transmission is a must have!
Cons: Tippy side to side and can't install rear chains without costly tire spacers.
