Mold and grass buildup on mower deck underside

Fortunately for me my Country Clipper has the stand-up design and I clean under the deck after every mow, wet or "dry". Even in the hot, dry summer the grass will stick and it's worse to scrape off than when wet, more like a tar. I can stand the deck up manually in about 2 minutes and I use a...

    Removing brush hog blades

On my very old Howse 6', the bolts also have a "pinched-up" key made into the tapered shoulder of the bolt to keep the bolt from turning which could be adding difficulty removing them. It's possible the bolt was/has spun and that key is wedging the bolt in even tighter. My personal opinion is a...

Mahindra 4540 - replacing steering hydraulic cylinder

Yes, being a retired auto mechanic I have a coffee can full of all kinds of plastic caps from stuff over the years and put a couple of snug caps over the fittings while disconnected. I doubt they would have drained much fluid, it comes from the valve on the steering column, but I did it mainly...

Mahindra 4540 - replacing steering hydraulic cylinder

When the leakage on my steering cylinder finally got too bad I took it off and went to my small town hydraulic shop and had it re-sealed for $88, parts & labor about 7 or 8 years ago. They didn't even need to know what it came off of, just measured for the parts and did the work. 2001 Mahindra...

How can I separate these two parts?

Looks exactly like the 4x4 shift fork on my Mahindra 4110 I've replaced a couple of times over the years. That's why you GENTLY shift in & out of 4wd and go between forward & reverse to shift it. The tip of that fork rests in a groove on a gear that slides on a splined shaft to engage/disengage...

    Finish for weathered table

You can easily sand cedar back down to the original red color, the gray layer isn't usually very deep and it will look like new again. Be careful about breathing much cedar dust in as you sand. True marine spar varnish is pricey but is what you need. It still won't be permanent but a good...

Another 'well below' normal period coming.

We're finally having what I consider a "normal" spring after 3 or 4 years of what the …? Our redbuds and dogwoods are absolutely fantastic this year. We seem to be having the proper amounts of rainfall at the proper intervals and temps are only ever so slightly higher than the old normal. This...

Truck to trailer wiring and the "issues"

I would imagine an Isuzu 1/2 ton would NOT have the harness for a 7 pin system, only a 4 wire for lights at the most. It would take a professional to properly install a brake controller and appropriate wiring for a trailer brake. A 7 pin has the aux pin for backup lights etc as well as a pin for...

    Carburetor repair

Looks like a Marvel-Schebler carb, very easy to disassemble and clean. Most were cast iron and rust would cause problems all the time if not cared for, later models were aluminum/pot metal. Having to choke it to run is a classic symptom of a fouled carb (or possibly a vacuum leak). Carb kits...

    Glow plug issue

Probably no fuse for glow plugs, only for the relay and/or timer. They usually use fusible links for the power thru the relay to the plugs. You need to get information on your particular model to see how it operates instead of everyone guessing what could be wrong.

    Gas power washer question

My Mi-T-M gas washer is 4.6 gpm with an 11 hp Briggs, belt drive pump. It has a pressure adjustment on the bypass valve but I've never tried running the engine at a lower rpm to see what happens, would have to fool with the governor adjustment to do so. My well can keep up with the washer but it...

    Woodchuck Problem

When I was a kid in CT I worked with this old German guy winterizing the lake houses in early fall. The woodchucks would always burrow down beside the basement walls. The old man would go around to bars and get empty liquor bottles and we would throw a couple bottles in the hole and smash it up...

How Do You Get Driveway Gravel Out of Grassy Areas?

I don't have a problem just using my boxblade angled back a little bit with the hydraulic toplink if there is much or larger stones. The small stuff disappears pretty quickly when the grass starts to grow again. I do the same with adding dirt to low spots in my yard during grass season -...

Buying a Country Clipper ZT and have questions

Yea, when I bought my mower I didn't try lifting it until later at home. To me it feels like mine has the pivot point of the weight too far back to pick up by hand. I CAN do it but very risky about pulling my back ... I'm 66 years old but I can still sling 80# bags of concrete up chest high and...

    Tractor is dead...help

You have to have at least a very basic knowledge of a 12 vdc system in order to TROUBLESHOOT a problem - "research" on youtube or advice from one of these parts store mechanics and firing the parts cannon at it probably won't do anything but flush your wallet. In rare cases you might hit across...

Buying a Country Clipper ZT and have questions

This will be season 6 for my CC Edge XLT w/60" deck, Kaw. engine and joystick. My approx. 6 acres I cut is pretty rough and some hilly and I've had very little scalping problems. My front axle pivots which allows the deck to follow the ground better plus I don't cut my grass as short as pool...

What to do with old chain link fencing?

I used some in the concrete slab for my shed out back years ago - don't know if it made a difference or not but got rid of some of it.

    Explosions in the woods

I'm about 15 miles from a TVA coal-fired steam plant and when they restart after a shutdown they obviously do something with some sort of pop-off valves or something with the steam system and it sounds like artillery. When we first moved here 15 years ago we thought it WAS artillery from Ft...

How many hours on your Mahindra?

Bought my 4110 new in Feb. 2002 (it's a 2001 model) with 3.2 hours on the clock and it now has 2230 hours. Have had some problems over the years but it still runs strong, uses no oil whatsoever and it starts readily year 'round whenever I need it. It has been a real workhorse overall and still...

    FEL Digging

Getting a break today from my latest digging project with my tractor, raining but we need it here. Almost done with it anyway, I'm digging out to build a fair-sized storm room/root cellar in the hillside. Over the years I've read here from some that say a FEL is not for digging, I have to...
