    Masonry drilling

Hi guys, I'm mounting square steel posts on the corners of my front steps for some handrails. The stair tread "cap" is bluestone, with brick underneath. I have no idea how solid the area inside the perimeter brick is. Maybe just rubble. I plan to use regular "red-head" anchors, probably...

Freeing up stuck upper side link mounts

What a battle! Fortunately, my automotive tie rod/pittman arm puller just fit. It's a good-quality, very stoutly made item (K-D Tools?), which is a good thing, because with about 100 ft-lb on it, the link pin was not budging. I cannot imagine any way to put more force on this joint! I got...

Freeing up stuck upper side link mounts

Hi guys, The retaining nuts on both sides of my sidelink upper mounts came loose just fine. Threads have some corrosion, but the whole pivot pin appears to be CAD plated. Unfortunately, the inner bushings of the links that the pins go through appear to just be regular and very rusty steel...

    600' water line suggestions

My contractor used the same stuff he runs miles of for the water utility district. SDR21. 20 ft lengths with o-ring joints. Water lines need to be able move just a little. They also put in 3 2" "sectionalizing" valves in little brick underground boxes so we can valve out a specific section...

    Kubota Top-N-Tilt concerns

There are actually THREE o-rings in between each valve pair and the supply/termination blocks. Two of them are regular round o-rings, but get squished into oval shaped recesses. Kubota says to stick them to the valves during assembly with heavy grease. If these didn't get seated properly, I'm...

Oil & Fuel  Corroded drain plug

Not sure what got ahold of this drain plug! I think it looks worse than it is. Not leaking any. I assume it is a tapered thread, so it seals on the threads and not the "rim". The allen innerds should still be fine best I can tell. Since it's behind the "split pin" I also assume that it is...

    "Sticky" valve movement - can/should I flush with a U-hose?

No, all lever operated. Part of the problem is that the levers are not really the stoutest, most rigid things out there. This one is before I reinstalled the levers.

    Rear remote coupling plate

Kubota supplied these with my L4330 "kit". Nice solid cast iron "sockets" with a heavy steel mount bracket that mounts to the rear up under the toolbox. Pioneer quick connects inside with a big snap ring in the back to secure them. Nice and neat, but pricey!

Looking at buying a used Kubota RTV 900 Diesel - NEED ADVICE, PLEASE!

Mine is Polaris OEM. No idea or clue who actually made it. Evidently I got the very last one existence to fit my 2010 model. It is very simple; stamped, powder coated steel frame, regular "tube" clamps to mount it to the frame uprights, and the lower mounts have a swing-out mechanism.

    "Sticky" valve movement - can/should I flush with a U-hose?

Hi guys, Two of my 3 newly-installed rear remote valves are both very "tight" (takes a lot of pressure on the levers) and seem to be "sticky" when they do move. Sticky enough that they don't return to center very well. Kinda have to be manually set there. The third (farthest outboard) is...

    Rotating Chipper Chute Clogging?

My chute rotates (Morbark Busy Beaver 125). It has clogged only when I try to chip large volumes of wet, punky wood. That doesn't really "chip" into nice air-floatable pieces, it is more like wet sawdust. The airflow is just not enough to vigorously blow that out of the chute.

BushHog 286 w/B&P or Binnachi slip clutch - which disks?

No, actually it wobbled a fair amount. The connection is splined and the hub is NOT split so that it could "clamp" onto the gearbox. There is a radial groove in the input shaft that the tapered bolt pulls into so that the hub can't slide off. Here's a couple of better shots after I cleaned it...

BushHog 286 w/B&P or Binnachi slip clutch - which disks?

Got it all apart. Sure enough, the rear friction plate is totally GONE and the rear ("inner") plate is a rusty disaster. Since I'd spend hours or at least $30-$40 trying to get it resurfaced, and then probably be out-of-spec too thin, I think I'll just order the pricey OEM Bushog plate from...

This is actually a wall mounting flange for a closet hanging rod. About 2" x 1-1/2". I need one extra and the manufacturer doesn't sell this part individually, only sells the whole rod/mount. Can anyone think of something similar? All it needs is a 3/8" hole in the center, enough of a...

    Wild Turkeys anyone?

In the front yard in TN.... They don't care about people (or the cats) as long as you stay inside. Even crack the door and they are gone! - Jay

Rotary Cutter bush hog not cutting

No problem, just lookin out for ya and hoping to get that thing working right with the least hassle. Sorry about the crazy-busy. Some find that bush hogging (assuming that everything is working right) is very "restorative".

    L4330 steering sqeak

Hi guys, My L4330 has recently developed a squeak somewhere in the lower parts of the front end, maybe around the right side power steering ram. It sounds like a rubber-on-metal squeak, but may be a hydraulic noise, I can't really tell. A brief inspection without any disassembly showed...

    Loader  Curl Cylinder Rebuild

So the local hydraulic shop just called - they finished rebuilding my leaky LA853 curl cylinders. One had a pretty bad score in the bore, the other had slightly leaking piston seals, so they honed the scored one and rebuilt them both. Aftermarket (not Kubota) seal kits. Total proce of $240...

Loader  LA 854 Loader Bucket Cylinder Fitting Size?

Hi guys, My bucket slowly droops, so something is leaking. I disconnected the hydraulic quick-connects to the bucket cylinders and the droop still happens, so the leak is evidently in the cylinder piston seals and not in the control valve. There is no external leakage. So on the assumption...

    ALMOST rolled it

Had an exciting day Monday - the local propane co came to install my underground tank. I was the backfill man. Started by needing to raise/level the bottom of the hole about a foot. In order to get into position, I had to go through the woods to the back side of the hole. I usually don't do...

    Wood Furnace Hot Water System?

Hi folks, I'm putting a wood-fired furnace in the new house. It came with a domestic hot water coil and I am trying to decide if I want to use/connect it. I know of no one who has any experience with this type of system, but I bet many on this forum do! I'll need about $100 of misc plumbing...

3 way dimmer on both ends?

Any electricians on here? Is there any reason that I can't use a 3 way dimmer on both ends of a 3 way circuit (e.g., top of stairs and bottom)? I checked Leviton's dimmer wiring diagrams for 3 ways, and they only show a regular 3-way switch at the opposite end from the dimmer. -Jay

    Deere 755B turbo

Hi all, Anyone know what all is involved in pulling a turbo from a Deere 755B trackloader? My BIL has one with a stuck turbo, and my suspicion is that it is just jammed with debris from a muffler that rotted out. - Jay
