No, I put some gear oil into the RC gearbox that had #2 already in it and immediately ran the cutter in normal use. After an hour or so everything was gone. I have used only straight greases since w/no problem.

YEAH! These on full pressure might blow a filter apart.

I find that #2 is ok when the bushog is used in shock producing situations often. Too much smooth running is not optimum as the grease stays pushed away from gears and bearings. I like #1 or 0 which almost flows. TSC economy grease is ~ #1.5 -- its seems to work well. Convenient.

Experience with JD 127 Gyramor: #2 grease + gear oil leaked out; #1 or 0 grease stayed in. No problem for years of hard use adding an ounce or so each year.

Check and see if the pump is running overly frequently even at the lower pressure. It may be that you have a split in the, probably poly plastic, well pipe. These sometimes develop over time immediately above the pump and would explain excess running and limited pressure.

The drilled hole was a good idea. Came up short due the sticky fluid. To realize the advantage it would have probably just taken a metered air jet downward at the hole. Not too hard to set up next time with a regulator and blo gun.

You can lift the front end and check for play in the pivot assembly or if any roughness can be detected in the bearings. If if feels ok you can just go to using a light grease (0 or 00) in the front end. No more nuisance leaks.

It depends what you are cutting. I like 5' on tractors up to 50HP. At that power level a compact high duty bushog will cut virtually anything. You can certainly go with less power/ft width but thick grass especially will call for low travel speed to avoid bogging.

Im pretty sure my 2010 has the same kind of mechanism. The PTO lever rests in the declutch state. As you throw the lever it operates the PTO clutch, then engages the PTO gear, and then releases the clutch. Thus there is no long term involvement of the PTO throwout bearing.
